Job description

The Operations and Supply Chain Management Group is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to work on an EPSRC-funded project UK National Clean Maritime Research Hub (UK-MarRe Hub). The UK-MarRe Hub, consisting of 13 universities in the UK and many industrial and civic organisations, aims to accelerate the decarbonisation and elimination of air pollution from maritime activity in ports and at sea. You will be tasked with gathering relevant data (both quantitative and qualitative) from secondary sources and industrial partners, conducting AI-based data analytics, developing data-driven optimisation models for operational efficiency and emission reduction in Maritime operations, interpreting the results, and preparing high quality academic articles and practitioner reports based on the results obtained. Candidates with necessary skillsets to complete these tasks are invited to submit their applications. You will possess a relevant PhD, or be close to completion of a PhD, and will demonstrate (i) ability to carry out research independently and collaboratively; (ii) ability to work with industrial partners; (iii) the potential to publish in top academic journals. You will also need to undertake administrative duties to support the project. The appointment will be made on the basis of the University's standard terms and conditions. The successful applicant will be based at the University of Liverpool. The post is fixed for 24 months. EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accredited, the University of Liverpool Management School is an international management school based in an enterprising and vibrant, world city of culture. The pursuit of research which is internationally recognised for excellence in its originality, significance and rigour is central to the culture of the School, as is delivery of a strong student experience. Following the appointment of the School's Dean, Professor Julia Balogun, in 2015 and supported by strong ongoing investment from the University and the University's ambitious STRATEGY2031, ULMS is fulfilling its mission to be a globally connected Management School whose transformative research and teaching places it at the forefront of influential knowledge leadership bringing the School together with students, business and society in learning to make a difference. Over the last three years ULMS has engaged in extensive recruitment of academic and professional services staff, expanding into a state-of-the-art extension adjacent to the Georgian quarter of Liverpool. The School now has over 220 academic staff supported by 80 professional services colleagues. In its wider setting, the School benefits from Liverpool's standing as a member of the UK's leading Russell Group research-intensive universities and from its location in a city which combines strong cultural activity, excellent transport links, and regional beauty with a world heritage skyline and is highly ranked on quality of life in the UK, while remaining one of Britain's most affordable cities. This post is available from 1st February 2024 until 30st September 2025. Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.
