Job Description
Permanent contract (Must be BIA trained GBP41,173 to GBP45,442 per annum (Scale K) 37 hours per week County Hall/ Hybrid Working
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Team (County Wide)
We offer a GBP2000 welcome payment for qualified and experienced Social Workers/Occupational Therapists (grade J and above), Practice Consultants and Team Managers new to Norfolk County Council. Amount to be repaid in full should they leave within two years of employment.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for trained Best Interest Assessors (BIA) to work in the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Team in the role of Practice Consultant. The Team undertake Best Interest Assessments on people residing in care homes or hospitals and who are deemed to lack to the capacity to consent to their care arrangements. This post would suit an experienced Best interest Assessor who wants to develop their skills in supervising and managing staff whilst developing their BIA practice . We work closely with hospital staff and residential care home providers. The role also involves working with our advocacy and legal services . As the successful applicant the PC will need to have a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and a good understanding of the Mental Health Act. You will need to be reliable, flexible and adaptable as both roles require you to manage complex situations and giving advice and guidance to a wide range of professionals and organisations. You must have good organisational skills and a thorough working knowledge of LAS. Due to the nature of the work you will need to operate well under pressure and have a calm approach to difficult or complex situations. You will need to be a good team player as the work can be demanding requiring assessments to be completed within a legal framework and legal time scale. In return you will receive the correct level and type of support, supervision and training to undertake the role effectively. You will join the other 2.5 PC's and will be expected to supervise the BIA and support the Team Manager in managing the work load and developing the service and BIA practice.

Norwich is the county capital of Norfolk, 120 miles from London and 60 miles from Cambridge. It's on the edge of the Broads National Park, and a 40-minute drive to the seaside. By train, Norwich to London takes 90 minutes and Cambridge less than an hour. There are also direct train links to the Midlands. Norwich International Airport has regular flights to Schiphol, Amsterdam and from there on to the rest of the world, plus daily internal flights to Scotland, Manchester, Exeter and Dublin.
