Additional Payments: Casual Car User Allowance

This role is subject to -

Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.

Police Vetting – You will be required to undertake a Greater Manchester Police vetting process.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders and it is available upon request.

  

Prevent is part of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy. The aim of Prevent is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. We do this by challenging terrorist ideology; supporting people susceptible to being drawn into terrorism and building resilience in a variety of sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation. We need to respond to tackle all forms of extremism - including both International and Extreme Right-Wing threats.

The public sector but in particular local authorities have a vital role to play in the successful delivery of Prevent objectives.  This is a high profile role responsible for supporting the local authority to deliver against its statutory Prevent and Channel responsibilities and work in partnership with communities and the voluntary and community sector to raise awareness and co-design activities that build community resilience to radicalisation and terrorism. 

The Prevent Communities Development Lead will be required to perform a strategic function, which connects with wider related strategies and focuses on strengthening neighbourhood delivery through a people and place lenses, utilising community assets, individuals and existing projects and programmes of work to develop and strengthen work delivered in partnership with our communities and strategic partners to prevent radicalisation and terrorism.

The Communities Development Lead will be responsible for:

  • The development and delivery of a Prevent specific community development strategy and work programme and lead on developing skills and confidence amongst Manchester's communities of identity.
  • Leadership and development of the city’s RADEQUAL Campaign and grant programme. This includes building capacity in communities to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to identify and refer vulnerable people and challenge extremist ideas.
  • Effective delivery of Homeland Security’s Prevent funded projects, ensuring that they deliver to the local risk profile and meet national and local objectives.
  • Establish local risk profile for extremism and co design activities and projects to build community resilience to hateful extremism.
  • Development and maintenance of meaningful relationships with communities and the VCS in the city, reflecting the diversity of Manchester’s population to promote the Prevent strategy, including via local media, and keep up to date with changes and any guidance issued by Homeland Security.

The ideal candidate will have working experience of engaging and working with communities and the voluntary and community sector to deliver change.  We are also looking for someone who is a good communicator and has experience of managing both people and projects to deliver high quality results.  The candidate should be well organised and able to juggle competing priorities, be good at problem solving and making decisions, skilled at developing trust and relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Previous experience of working with communities on sensitive and challenging areas of policy would be beneficial. 

They will have knowledge and a clear understanding of relevant central and local government issues and trends, including legislation, relevant to preventing people from being drawn into terrorism and wider community safety agendas, safeguarding and approaches to community cohesion and integration in local government.
