Addressumbrl is a startup in the insurtech space, set-up by 80 Tech. It was founded in June 2023 and aims at launching its first home insurance policies in the UK in September 2024.
umbrl has a strong quantitative DNA and will propose data-driven consumer journey and rating. We have set ourselves ambitious targets over the next few years.

THE ROLE
We are looking for a Pricing & Data Science Lead to manage our modelling and pricing effort at our London office. This person would report to the CEO.
We are hoping for an ambitious individual who is organised, proactive and hardworking to join our team.
Additionally, broad end-to-end knowledge of ML, modelling, treatment of data is required. This includes having a good understanding of all disciplines around pricing (product, underwriting, reserving, data and MI).
Experience in the insurance sector is a requirement; this can be in Data Science, modelling, pricing or trading team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the modelling and pricing development from a very early stage in Umbrl’s life cycle. That means:
- setting up, monitoring and adjusting Umbrl’s early pricing algorithm,
- covering all issues in and around pricing (data management (mining, interpreting, cleaning our data), hosting of models, deployment of pricing tools for production); and
- developing the product offering to gain smooth and rapid traction in the household insurance market space.
- Drive the collaboration with product design and engineering teams to develop an understanding of needs
- Research and devise innovative statistical models for data analysis
- Pilot and execute analytical experiments to help solve problems across various domains and industries
- Devise and utilise algorithms and models to mine big-data stores; perform data and error analysis to improve models; and clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy
- Be highly proactive and communicative in driving pricing changes
- Develop the product offering
- Own the testing and challenge of the product and pricing offerings through A/B testing or otherwise
- Work with engineering to ensure all Umbrl’s data is fit for purpose now and in the future
- Suggest underwriting improvements in areas such as wording, footprint and declines
- Deliver and/or challenge basic reserving techniques to provide confidence in the PULR
SKILLS
- A breadth of experience in Data Science and modelling – data mining, mathematical and statistical analysis expertise
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Attention to details
- Skilled in Python, SQL and Excel.
