Job description

Why LNER?

Our vision is to be the most loved, progressive and responsible way to travel for generations to come, and we're looking for the people who can deliver this, every day.

Since we took over the East Coast route, we've been changing the face of travel. Our new fleet of Azuma trains are delivering faster journey times, more space, comfort and greater reliability. Our exciting plans to embrace new ideas, experiences, backgrounds and ambitions make this the ideal time to join. We were the first and are currently the only franchised rail operator to achieve customer numbers back to pre-pandemic levels and we are leading the charge to transform rail through digital and customer focussed innovation.

Bringing passion. Being bold. Always caring. Owning it. They're the values that make us LNER.

Are you on board?

What you'll be doing:

Here at LNER we are transforming the ticketing offer across the route, making fares easy to understand and removing massively outdated products. We're leading the way on fares reform and building trust in our pricing, through innovative pilot schemes and a strategy that tackles the big issues head on. We're committed to fares simplification, improving the customer experience and growth.

As such, we have created a brand-new role within our Revenue Optimisation Team as a Pricing Support Manager. Reporting into the Pricing Strategy Manager, our Pricing Support Manager will support on the Pricing remit, ensuring that all elements of the pricing strategy are delivered on time and to standard. Within this role you will assist in implementing fares changes, undertake pricing analysis, deliver reporting and be accountable for responding to any pricing queries from internal (and sometimes external stakeholders). You'll also be involved in providing analytical support to ensure that LNER make pricing decisions which maximise revenues and profit, and which build a fare structure fit for the future.

You will also be involved in;

  • Assisting both the Pricing Strategy Manager and Senior Fares Strategy Manager with preparing material for presentation to stakeholders.
  • Engaging with and contributes to Fares Reform plans and LNER's Fares Utopia vision.
  • Supporting the negotiation with other train operators and regulatory bodies over pricing and income issues, collecting suitable data and using personal knowledge to protect LNER interests.
  • Maintaining competitor pricing checks using all available sources of information to ensure that the LNER pricing strategy remains competitive, in particular following each Fare Setting Round.
  • Supporting colleagues to ensure that key internal and external stakeholders are suitably briefed and informed about changes to fares, products and restrictions, working alongside commercial and digital team members to ensure that pricing-retail interfaces work effectively.
  • Delivering on essential fares reporting requirements following existing processes and providing adhoc fares reporting as required.
  • Enabling the pricing team to understand the net worth of any particular product at any given point in time to support rapid decision making where required.
  • Supporting colleagues to ensure that LNER fares and their likely impact are accurately and timely communicated at all levels to all interested internal and external parties.
  • Striving for continuous improvement in LNER's fare structure and fares ladders, providing LNER with as much flexibility and commercial freedom as possible in its fare setting capability.
  • Working closely with the Revenue Growth team to understand any pain points in pricing and undertake necessary changes as required.
  • Having a proactive approach - self starter and comes up with own ideas.
  • Continually evolving processes and approaches in line with changing market and economic conditions and evolving systems capability.

In terms of location, we have offices based in London and York but can be flexible with travel across the route.

What you'll need:

To be successful, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following;

  • A basic understanding of pricing techniques and systems, consumer sales and business accounting.
  • A basic understanding of the UK rail industry and rail fares, with an appetite to become an expert through experience.
  • Detail orientated with the ability to grasp complex concepts, processes and data.
  • Ability to think analytically along with highly developed numerical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Being able to undertake tasks with proactivity and little supervision.
  • Excellent IT and Microsoft Office skills.
  • A degree in a numerate subject or equivalent (desirable).
  • Experience of communicating at a senior level (desirable).

What you'll get:

  • Free travel on LNER + 75% off other companies' tickets (for you & dependents)
  • Discounted international train tickets (after one year's service)
  • 50% discount on LNER tickets for friends & family
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Annual cycle to work schemes
  • Discount, savings and cashback scheme from top retailers
  • Health & wellbeing schemes and discounts
  • Host of training opportunities to help further your career
  • Rewards & awards to recognise when you shine
