- Battery Storage ProjectsTo support our growth ambitions, we are seeking a new Principal or Senior Business Development Manager to join our growing team. Please note, this is not a sales role!
As our Principal Business Development Manager, you will be directly leading development projects, and managing a portfolio of projects led by Business Development Managers and Business Developers, de-risking each and preparing them for investment decision, along with clear delivery plans so that, post FID (Final Investment Decision), they can be smoothly transitioned into construction and operation.
With such a large and growing pipeline, this is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of transmission connected battery storage development in the UK.

What you’ll be doing.
The main focus of the team and that of the Principal Business Development Manager role is driving the strategy for growth and delivering the development and commercialisation of utility scale battery storage projects, taking on the day to day project management following planning submission, securing investment approval and providing a de-risked hand-over to the Construction team.
In this role you will also get opportunities to:
- Manage a portfolio of projects and a small team of Business Development Managers and Business Developers
- Identify commercial opportunities for new revenue streams, grid services, different battery technologies or long duration energy storage (LDES)
- Work on origination, M&A or disposal projects
- Input to strategy development, and assess policy and regulation changes
- Work with internal and external stake holders as well as multi-disciplinary subject-matter experts (e.g. engineering, procurement, construction, investment & analysis, legal etc) to de-risk projects and prepare them for investment decision
- Manage project internal governance processes for each project involving relevant internal stakeholders as appropriate. This will include project reporting on progress against key milestones.
- Manage project budget and costs and appropriate project management documentation.
- Network with other EDF Renewables international teams in EMEA, the Americas, and AsiaWhat do you need to be great at this role?
Whilst this role is not a sales role, it does require excellent relationship building skills as well as project management skills. We have two roles to fill, one with a focus on overseeing our existing pipeline, and a second with a Strategy and Growth focus.
We’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate all or some of the following:
- Managing and organising a team to ensure that all activities are appropriately resourced and managed effectively, whilst also managing the well-being and development of team members
- Ability to think strategically and understand key technology and commercial drivers
- Managing a development pipeline or portfolio of projects, and ensuring that they are being de-risked and progressing to achieve growth targets
- Strong knowledge and understanding of project life-cycles and risks, ideally across large scale battery storage or renewable energy projects
- A solid understanding of revenue forecasting, current and future opportunities and risks for UK battery storage projects
- Experience preparing robust business cases and investment material for investment committee decision or securing project finance
- An understanding of the technical (grid connection, site design, planning consent) and other commercial dimensions (land leases, equipment procurement, financial models) of each project
- Experience of managing more complex projects and co-ordinating activities with multi-disciplinary subject-matter experts (e.g. engineering, procurement, construction, investment & analysis, legal etc) to de-risk projects and prepare them for investment decisions
- An awareness of the UK energy market, policy and regulatory environment impacting the renewable energy and battery storage sector (current and future)
- Excellent attention to detail, an ability to challenge assumptions and identify ways to improve a project and put forward a robust business case for investment decision
- A can-do attitude and able to establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders right across EDF Renewables UK, the wider EDF Group and externallyIf you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the description, we encourage you to apply anyways.
