Liverpool City Council has embarked on a major improvement programme that involves all parts of the organisation. Highways and Transport is especially focused on delivering a range of improvements across the whole directorate. It has recently completed a service review which has identified the need for a number of new positions. In the role of Principal Engineer - Structures, you will help to shape Liverpool city. There is a strong focus on this service and this is your chance to make your mark by taking the lead on the strategy and approach towards structures.
This is a critically important role with a substantial workload, which is why you will be part of a dedicated assets team, looking after all Liverpool City Council’s assets.
Day to day, you will be carrying out feasibility studies; assessing, designing and improving highway structures; and evaluating design and construction proposals that are submitted to the Council. You’ll also be highly collaborative - consulting with stakeholders and providing vital technical advice so we meet our statutory obligations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide technical expertise to ensure that the Council’s statutory obligations with regard to the maintenance and management of its highway structures stock are satisfied
- Carry out feasibility studies and prepare estimates, project plans, programmes and reports, and assist in the preparation of service plans for submission to the Department’s management team
- Undertake or manage work associated with assessment, design, strengthening and improvement of highway structures in compliance with current standards, guidance and advice and in accordance with the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 (or successor regulations)
- Evaluate infrastructure design and construction proposals submitted to the Council by outside parties and provide informed opinion and support to the Council as Technical Approval Authority
- Prepare briefs and assist in the supervision and management of consultants undertaking commissions on behalf of the Council
