Job description

Full time, 3 days a week together from our Digital hub in Birmingham (flexible 2 days remote wherever). 
 

This position sits within the Consumer arm of BT, which is the largest provider of consumer mobile and fixed communication services in the UK, with over 25 million subscribers, and more than 450 stores on the high street. Three brands sit under BT’s Consumer division: the flagship Consumer brand is EE, together with BT and Plusnet. All working in harmony to provide broadband, home phone, mobile, gaming, TV and entertainment services.

 

The immediate assignment:

 

In this job, you’ll be accountable for crafting digital experiences that meet user needs but also business goals. You will also be leading others across strategic squads and supporting the Design Lead and your direct peers, including providing direction for & mentoring others across the team. This role will have a material impact on the success of the Consumer business. 

 

The exact digital products in the scope of any of our roles will evolve over time. This role is to work in a Design Strategy team, focused on creating and exploring what’s next for our products and services.

You'll have the following accountabilities:

 

  • You will be responsible for being the confident, objective voice of our users - Relentlessly chasing needs-based innovation and producing world class quality experiences. 
  • Product Design - You will be responsible for ensuring the user is able to achieve their goal easily, in a simplified user journey, with low friction interactions in a way that has a commercial benefit.  
  • Experience definition and direction - You will be accountable for collaboratively defining the digital experience on major products within the focus area of your squad and considering the impact on all initiatives across the digital channels. 
  • Design execution & delivery - You will be accountable for translating user needs and business goals into compelling interactive customer journeys. 
  • Continuous improvement - You will engage with Content Designers, user research & data analysis to ensure our content is evidence based, user centred and continually optimised.
  • Commercial approach - You will ensure Copy and Content supports and aligns with the Digital and Consumer strategy and objectives.
  • Responsible - for the application of the BT/EE Design System in your experience designs.
  • Design Team - You will be a Design team chapter & guild lead. Responsible for driving forward our ways of working, coaching others in the team and supporting the managers (but not formally line managing) while still excelling as an individual contributor to ensure we have a happy team, great products and happy customers. You will be a key consultation point across the team and a proactive member of the department.

 

You'll have the following skills & experience:

 

A spectrum of technical expertise across the following skills (with a specialism in some areas):

 

  • Interaction Design & Prototyping - defining the order and experience of the users activities within the digital touch-points
  • Visual Design & Finesse - crafting interactions into a simple and delightful user interface
  • Information Architecture - ensuring content is findable and usable
  • User Journey Mapping - designing end to end journeys with needs and data at their heart  
  • User Research & Testing - discovering issues and needs regular qualitative learning  
  • Data Analysis, MVT & A/B Testing - analysing behaviours and appetites using regular quantitative learning
  • Micro Copy & Micro Interaction Design - ensuring each moment is intentionally crafted

 

You will also be expected to have:

 

  • Experience in the main areas of Digital Product Design, web and native apps
  • Experience in Design in a user centred Digital environment
  • Enough technical knowledge to design for feasibility
  • Great rationale for strategy and ambiguous design work
  • Provide support to design direction with the team and engineers
  • Would be a bonus if any experience with VR, AR spaces, you can be curious about it, as some of our projects for this team involves spatial (think outside the basic web and app format, strategy can be delivered as experiences)
