Job Description

Opportunity

DC Thomson is fast becoming a digital-first, subscription first business with teams and tech to match. Following a period of investment in technology and commercial platforms, data science, brand, and people & culture.

As part of this transformation, DC Thomson set up a New Product Development team, and we are seeking a talented Product Designer to join.

As a Product Designer within our new product development team, you will play a crucial role in conceptualising and designing user-centered solutions for cutting-edge products. You will be part of a collaborative team that embraces a forward-thinking approach to solving customer problems and innovating new solutions.

The New Product Development team is a lean, agile group with each member playing a pivotal role. As a Product Designer, your role will also be key in supporting the practice development and driving growth through innovation.

While the team is compact, it boasts access to a wealth of resources, support from wider teams, and collaboration with stakeholders from various facets of the business. This interconnectedness fuels our ability to bring cutting-edge ideas to life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams from across the business.
  • Effectively communicate design decisions and rationale to stakeholders.
  • Engage in conceptual thinking and contribute innovative ideas to drive the development of ground-breaking products.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions, design thinking workshops, and collaborative activities to generate and refine creative concepts.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to inspire and inform design decisions.
  • Conduct regular research on competitor products to identify opportunities for differentiation and improvement.
  • Lead in rapid prototyping as part of continuous discovery.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs to communicate design concepts effectively.
  • Develop user flows.
  • Plan and conduct regular user testing to gather valuable feedback.
  • Support the product manager in analysing and communicating outputs of user testing to a wider team and stakeholders.
  • Iterate designs based on user feedback and usability testing results to enhance the user experience continuously.
  • Apply design best practices within the new product development team.

Attributes

  • Strong conceptual thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Passion for innovation and a keen interest in exploring the latest design trends – “Art of the Possible” mindset.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week from our London Office. The role presents the opportunity for hybrid working that must include regular office attendance. We offer a generous package including 34 days holiday, Health Cash Plan, excellent Pension, a competitive salary, and many more staff discounts and benefits.

We are an equal opportunity employer and encourage applications from everyone and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability or any other protected characteristics.
