Job Title:
Junior Production Operative
Job Purpose:
To manufacture medical devices by carrying out and monitoring production line operations, with associated quality assurance, quality control and warehousing activities. To adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, and report to senior Production Operatives/Production Head as necessary.
Duties:
- Preparing production equipment, including CNC milling machines, laminar air-flow units, pouch sealer, lensometer, ultrasonic baths, label printers, etc., for operation by making equipment set-up adjustments; assisting with equipment changeovers.
- Preparing production areas - maintaining the necessary standards for medical device manufacturing, i.e. cleanroom standards, carrying out daily cleaning of all work surfaces and recording activities carried out.
- Documenting production processes by completing production logs; noting the receipt, flow, and return of materials into warehouse, scanning barcodes, noting bins / racks / inspection slips / logsheets / cleaning production areas, and preparing dispatch of products from the finished goods store.
- Carrying out specific production processes, including operating CNC milling machine, power checking products with the lensometer, inspecting and cleaning medical devices under microscope, sealing products in pouches, batch allocation for sterilisation, packing lenses, printing labels, and dispatching orders.
- Maintaining quality standards by conducting product inspections at different stages; completing batch manufacturing records; making equipment adjustments as needed, reporting production and quality results, referring questions to the Seniors or the Production Head.
- Following policies and procedures (equipment, raw and in-process materials, and finished goods); reporting needed changes.
- Carrying out non-production duties including but not limited to, warehousing, goods dispatch, microbiology testing, general area cleaning, maintenance (under supervision) of key production equipment.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean working environment with documentation, by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, with an emphasis on lean manufacturing and continual improvement.
Education
- Proficient in written/spoken English
- Basic numeracy to GCSE level or equivalent
Competencies/Personal Qualities:
- All job-related training is provided; no previous experience is required.
- Good eyesight (with/without glasses or contacts) is essential.
- Can communicate effectively in person.
- Can function as part of a production line, working with others to achieve production goals.
- Able to adapt to changes in work schedule
- Willing to move to a shift-based pattern (Mon-Fri 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm) after 6 months
- Attentive to detail and to raise issues where noticed.
- Physically able to carry out production duties, including standing and light lifting.
- Sufficient dexterity to handle small medical devices.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £12.30-£14.00 per hour
