Contract: Temporary until 31st March 2026

This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of Leeds Film which organises Leeds International Film Festival, Leeds Young Film Festival and the INDIs Film Festival, and year-round activities. Leeds Film is part of the Arts, Events & Venues service at Leeds City Council which also organises Light Night Leeds, Leeds International Concert Season and Leeds International Beer Festival, and operates Leeds Town Hall, Carriageworks Theatre and Millennium Square. Leeds Film is currently based at Carriageworks Theatre.

The Programme and Outreach Officer is responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of film programming and community outreach for Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) and year-round LIFF activities. The job will focus on reaching underrepresented and underserved audiences in Leeds and West Yorkshire through the film Programme and community outreach as part of LIFF and year-round activities. The job will also support, help service, and contribute to all programming.

Job Description

Job Purpose

The Programme and Outreach Officer will be responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of film programming and community outreach for Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) and year-round activities. The job will focus on reaching underrepresented and underserved audiences in Leeds and West Yorkshire through the film Programme and community outreach as part of LIFF and year-round activities. The job will support, help service, and contribute to all programming and include some collaboration with festivals organised by Leeds Young Film.
Taking place every November, LIFF is organised by Leeds Film which also organises year-round activities including LIFF Presents and Cinema on the Square. In addition, Leeds Young Film is part of Leeds Film and organises Leeds Young Film Festival for children and families and INDIs Film Festival for ages 16-25. Leeds Film is part of the Leeds Arts, Events & Venues service at Leeds City Council and is currently based at Carriageworks Theatre on Millennium Square.

Responsibilities

Please note the duties outlined are not meant as an exhaustive list and will also comprise any other duties within the spirit of the post commensurate with the job evaluation outcome for this post.

  • Coordinate researching, selecting, booking, and servicing the programme for LIFF and year-round, in collaboration with the Programme Manager and freelance programmers.
  • Coordinate assigning, viewing, and servicing film submissions for LIFF. Lead on growing the level of film submissions from underrepresented UK and international filmmakers.
  • Contribute to programming features and shorts for LIFF and year-round, helping to create an accessible, diverse, and inclusive selection. Lead on growing the film selection from UK regions.
  • Research and identify community areas and partners to reach underrepresented and underserved audiences in Leeds and West Yorkshire. Develop the community outreach plan.
  • Coordinate reaching and consulting with the target community audiences, collaborating with partners, LIFF team members, and advisors on communications, engagement, and programme.
  • Develop a range of Programme and Outreach activities for LIFF and year-round for target community audiences. Collaborate with Leeds Young Film on activities for young audiences.
  • Coordinate the logistics and delivery of the activities with partners and other LIFF team members. Schedule and undertake or assign introductions, talks, Q&As, and other additional activity content.
  • Coordinate relationships with Programme and Outreach partners, building on existing ones and developing new ones from various sectors. Grow and coordinate the partner network.
  • Collaborate on sourcing and developing new partnership and funding opportunities for Programme and Outreach activities. Support the development of activities by those who live in communities.
  • Coordinate recruitment, assignment, communications, and support for temporary Programme and engagement team members, including community ambassadors, and for casuals and volunteers.
  • Support the delivery of LIFF in other programme activities as assigned, including helping to coordinate the LIFF competitions for features and shorts. Contribute to evaluation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with communications team members on marketing the Programme and Outreach activities. Contribute to writing copy for the film selection and other requirements.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade.  
  • Participate in appraisal, training, and development activities as necessary to ensure up to date knowledge and skills.
  • Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and appropriate CPD programmes.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.
  • Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures e.g., child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

  • Experience of creating and develop new partnerships with a variety of organisations.
  • Experience of engaging new audiences.
