Midlands Connect seeks a proactive and driven Programme Director to lead their ambitious strategic transport plan. As Programme Director you will:

• Take the initiative: Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead the development of large, innovative, and complex technical programmes and enjoy high levels of autonomy. The dynamic working environment will provide ample opportunities to use your own initiative.
• Lead the conversation: This high-profile role will see you operating at the most senior levels giving you considerable exposure. You will lead the conversation on Transport Strategy and develop relationships with Midlands Connect partners, government entities, and national transport industry bodies.
• Manage multiple priorities: Balancing priorities will be key to success in this role. You will inspire and empower a high performing team and ensure the programme of works aligns with the Strategic Transport Plan. You will enjoy working multiple, simultaneous projects in a fast-paced and flexible environment.
• Explore new frontiers: As Programme Director you will be instrumental in shaping the future of transportation in the region. Your success in post will result in a fairer, greener, and stronger transport network for the Midlands.

Midlands Connect researches, develops, and progresses transport projects which provide the greatest possible environmental, economic, and social benefits for the Midlands and the rest of the UK.

We examine every option for improving major transport infrastructure in our region, analysing the cost, impact, and benefits of delivering these changes, and ensuring there is a strong pipeline of projects being developed to improve mobility across the Midlands.

Our aim for these improvements is to transform regional and UK gateways, bringing the Midlands closer together and accelerating cost-effective improvements to unlock east-west connectivity that will enable the Midlands’ economies to work more effectively together.

Our ideal candidate will have the perfect combination of technical ability, diplomacy, and people management skills. Key characteristics we’re looking for include:

• Substantial experience as a senior leader in a large, complex setting
• Extensive strategic planning experience in transport infrastructure investment
• Proven success in navigating complex political environments
• Ability to negotiate with, and gain the respect of, senior technical people
• Demonstrated ability in stakeholder engagement and partnership development
• Results-oriented with a competitive drive
• Innovative with creative problem-solving skills

The position is based in Birmingham and allows for hybrid working with two days on-site per week. A salary of £80,000 - £87,000 is offered alongside a benefits package which includes 28 days leave, and the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
