This is a fixed-term 2-year contract.
We are on the lookout for an experienced individual to lead a programme of activity to reduce City Wide carbon emissions, working with residents and our business community.
About you:
You will be qualified to Level 6 within a related subject area and have experience in reducing carbon emissions for a business or a place. You should have excellent analytical, communication and negotiation skills to deliver the Net Zero Exeter 20203 Plan. You will be inquisitive and not afraid to professionally challenge, with a track record of delivery.
You should have excellent knowledge of national and local policies in related to climate change and Net Zero and be creative in how these policies are delivered in Exeter. Having the skill to maintain complex relationships will be key in reducing City Wide carbon emissions.
About the role:
You will lead and manage the delivery of the Net Zero Exeter 2030 Plan, supporting residents and businesses from across Exeter to reduce their carbon emissions. You will lead on both the Business and Community Climate Change Groups providing guidance, specialist and technical advice to support change and to adopt new ways of working. The role will report into the Liveable Exeter Place on progress made, as well as the City Council’s Strategic Scrutiny Committee.
You should be able to manage and deliver several high value projects at once, with associated financial management and capital budget monitoring ensuring projects do not overspend, but also spend within a dedicate timeframe.
You should have experience of working with, managing, and getting the best out of multiple partners and project participants and be able to manage competing priorities in delivering change for the greater good.
You should have experience in applying for funding to deliver both revenue and capital projects, and be successful in your applications.
About the team:
The Net Zero & Business team sits within the Net Zero Exeter & City Management Directorate, subject to a corporate re-structure. The team works to deliver the Exeter Vision 2040 and a number of Exeter City Council Strategic Priorities, primarily Net Zero Carbon City, Housing & Building Great Neighbourhoods & Communities and A Balanced Budget.
We also have a team that leads on reducing our own corporate carbon emissions, working across all services in delivering change. This team have been successful in achieving significant funding in reducing building carbon emissions.
The team also manage off-street car parks across the city. There are opportunities in how the City Council utilises spare capacity in Car Parks to reduce our own corporate and City Wide carbon emissions, this is an opportunity to for change.
The role of the city centre sits within this team, will play an important role in supporting the Programme Manager. The team have a good relationship with the wider business community across the city, which will need to be drawn on for collaboration and partnership working to reduce City Wide carbon emissions.
