Job description

The Westmorland and Furness Council Capital Programme team is responsible for the core delivery of the Council’s c.£60m/year Capital Programme developing projects which make a real ‘on the ground’ difference to our communities, places and people in Westmorland and Furness. The team delivers design, construction and maintenance projects for Children’s Services, Adult Services, the Highways Service and the corporate property portfolio.

Are you someone who thrives on delivering successful projects that will make a lasting and positive impact on communities, people and places, paired with working in the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, Eden Valley and Morecambe Bay areas. Then we may have just the job opportunities for you to make your next career step!

We are always on the lookout for Project Manager’s with experience in property development, who could then help us to procure expert designers and construction partners through the council’s procurement frameworks and manage them through the design and construction phases of your projects.

You can expect to work in a high performing team with likeminded individuals. You can also expect high amounts of accountability and responsibility to help the whole team deliver multi-million pound projects for Westmorland and Furness Council.

Projects you could be helping to deliver include new or improved community assets such as community centres and libraries, new or rationalised office accommodation, new or improved schools alongside maintaining schools and corporate buildings or improving town centre public realm. This opportunity is open to Project Managers who have the skills and experience to work on and deliver some of Westmorland & Furness’s most interesting, high profile and complex schemes.

You will be responsible for conducting research and gathering requirements, producing project plans, managing project teams, developing business cases, monitoring and documenting project progress and changes, preparing communication materials and reports and liaising with the client, contractors and designers.

You will ensure that your projects are delivered safely, to a high standard, economically and timely, and be willing to review your projects with a desire to make improvements, as well as share and learn with the wider Capital Programme team.

Westmorland and Furness Council are ambitious. Committed to making the area a great place to live, work and thrive.
