Our referral team, consisting of experienced Veterinary Surgeons including certificate holders and diplomats, relies on the support of skilled Referral Veterinary Nurses to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
As a Referral Veterinary Nurse at Voo, you will play a crucial role in the referral function, collaborating closely with our Veterinary Surgeons and contributing to the overall success of our integrated approach to veterinary medicine. This position involves a diverse range of responsibilities aimed at providing optimal care for our patients.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Animal Handling: Skilfully handle a variety of animals, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the referral process.
- Surgery Monitoring: Monitor surgeries alongside Veterinary Surgeons, ensuring adherence to protocols and responding promptly to any changes in patient status.
- Pre, Peri, and Post-Operative Care: Provide comprehensive care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures, ensuring their well-being at all stages.
- Surgical Area Maintenance: Perform thorough cleaning of surgical areas to maintain a sterile environment following correct protocols and policies.
- Equipment Sterilisation: Clean and sterilise equipment, including scopes, to uphold the highest standards of hygiene.
- CT Scan Support: Assist with CT scans, ensuring accurate and timely execution of diagnostic procedures.
- Ultrasound Support: Assist with ultrasound scans, ensuring accurate and timely execution of diagnostic procedures.
- Collaboration with Referral Receptionists and Veterinary Surgeons: Liaise with Referral Receptionists to facilitate smooth coordination between different functions within the hospital.
- Lab Sample Handling: Package and process lab samples efficiently and accurately.
- Blood Sample Analysis: Run blood samples, following established procedures for timely and precise results.
- Understanding Documentation: Proficiently interpret and follow kennel sheets and General Anaesthetic charts.
- Drug Calculations: Conduct accurate drug calculations to ensure precise administration and patient safety.
- Clinical Skills: Include blood sampling and Intravenous catheter placement.
- Ordering and Restocking of Medical Equipment and Stock.
- Maintenance for Surgical and Medical Equipment.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree or diploma in Veterinary Nursing or keenness to progress on the relevant course, including correct grades.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to handle and care for a variety of animals.
- Proficient in calculations.
