Job description

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for 2 motivated enthusiastic Registered Nurses to join our Ophthalmology unit. The ophthalmology unit provides outpatient, Theatre and Inpatient services but you will primarily be providing care in the outpatient department at the Royal Gwent Hospital and its satellite clinics on other ABUHB sites. Ability to travel to geographic sites to deliver service requirements is essential.
In order to develop the necessary specialist skills required of this post the successful applicant will complete the competency based framework and have access to the ophthalmology educational programme.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be reliable, hardworking and work well within a team. The applicant must be a Registered Nurse. The ideal candidate must be expected to demonstrate commitment to their own personal development and show keen interest in the future development of the profession and ophthalmology services.
The vacancies are full-time.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Job Summary/Job Purpose:
The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
To contribute to the smooth running of the department in terms of taking charge of the department in the absence of the department manager and deputy, assisting in all clinical areas as required.
To participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Specific clinical duties:
On completion of competencies to undertake therapeutic and diagnostic ophthalmic procedures and assessment including visual acuity and visual fields testing, slit lamp assessment, biometry, tonometry, imaging, bandage contact lens, punctal plugs, ophthalmic wound care and removal of sutures etc as required.
Undertake venepuncture and cannulation
Administer Fluorescein treatment and manage Fluorescein Angiography clinics.
Complete required mandatory and statutory training including dementia awareness and carers measures.
