Contract Type: Fixed Term contract from May 2024 up to March 2025 Closes: 18/02/2024 Background The School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham is a vibrant and thriving academic community with over 150 academic, research and Professional Services staff. It has expanded significantly over the past 5 years and will move to a new state-of-the-art research building in 2024. Role Summary You will play an important role in supporting the implementation of the School’s research strategy by supporting academic staff with externally funded grant delivery, including budget management and staff recruitment. You will support the School’s Director of Research with the School’s research pipeline, in the running of School Research Committee and may participate in other committees/working groups as required. A key component of the position is to establish and maintain successful working relationships with academic staff and other Professional Services colleagues across the School and University and beyond. As a member of the School Operations Team, your contribution will be important and valued by your colleagues and the research staff and students we support. You will be part of a collegiate School community with a supportive working environment formed by the School’s Professional Services Teams and Academic staff. You will be expected to demonstrate citizenship and develop and maintain generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships, ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs. Person Specification You should hold a degree or have equivalent relevant experience in a similar role, and GCSEs in Mathematics and English at C or above (or equivalent). You should have proven knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education environment and funding, experience of projects, strong analytical, communication, networking and relationship-building skills and be highly numerate with an attention to detail.
