Applications are invited for the above post, to start in April 2024 for a fixed term of two years.
The successful applicant will closely work with Prof. Ian Hall on the Vulnerable Setting work-package of the Wellcome Trust funded discovery grant ‘Harnessing epidemiological and genomic data for understanding of respiratory virus transmission at multiple scales’ with Prof. Lorenzo Pellis and chief investigator Prof. Thomas House in Manchester and a wider partnership with Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The appointed candidate would become part of the Mathematical and Statistical Epidemiology group in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Manchester, a group of over 20 active researchers.
This work-package seeks to answer the following questions: What is the relationship between wider community infection and outbreaks/transmission in specific settings where there is particular vulnerability and/or epidemiological importance (care homes, hospitals, prisons etc.)? Can we use the ONS COVID-19 Infectious Survey to extend and refine existing forecasting model capability? Can preparedness and response to outbreaks in vulnerable settings be improved through information gained from genomic and epidemiological surveillance?
