Job description

Job summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join a research team working on organic semiconductors for photoconversion and sensor devices. Experience of optoelectronic studies of organic semiconductors (e.g. conjugated polymers and small molecules) is essential, as is experience in the fabrication of organic conductor/ organic semiconductor devices including organic field effect transistors (OFETs) and organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs). Experience of detailed organic device analysis such as charge transport properties and noise analysis, as well as experience of theoretical simulation of organic semiconductor devices using various circuit designs are essential for this post. The applicant should have a strong track record of research on organics and their device analysis, publishing journal papers, and writing proposals. You will be expected to work well as a part of the team, and contribute significantly to the supervision of research students, and with the management of external collaborations. There will be opportunities to gain undergraduate teaching experience as appropriate.

Duties and responsibilities

You will contribute to independent and original research within the Nanoanalysis Group in the Matter Community, submit publications to refereed journals and assist with the grant proposals and the administration of the Research Group. You will be self-motivated and be able to work alongside and aid graduate students. Interdisciplinary research and collaboration with project partners in the UK and abroad is an important aspect of this project.

Essential requirements

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Physical Science or a closely related discipline

  • Practical experience of optoelectronic studies of organic semiconductors (e.g. conjugated polymers and small molecules)

  • Practical experience in the fabrication of organic conductor/ organic semiconductor devices such as organic field effect transistors, organic synaptic transistors, and organic phototransistors

  • Practical experience of detailed organic device analysis including charge transport properties and noise analysis

  • Practical experience of organic device simulation using various circuit models

  • A proven track record of publishing journal papers and writing grant proposals

In addition, knowledge in the following areas is desirable:

  • Knowledge of organic photoconversion devices such as OPV and OPD

  • Knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures related to optoelectronic spectroscopic analyses

Further information

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £40,694 - £43,888 per annum.
