Job description

Applications are welcome for a Research Fellow in Mathematical Modelling. The successful applicant will mainly work with Professor Katherine Payne but also Dr Stuart Wright, Wellcome Trust Research Fellow based in the Manchester Centre for Health Economics. The applicant will also work with Professor Ian Hall, Professor of Mathematical Epidemiology and Statistics based in the Mathematical and Statistical Epidemiology group on specific projects.

The key purpose of this post is to develop and apply Mathematical Modelling to understand the impact of specific healthcare interventions. You will be expected to work with a large research team including health economists, clinicians, imaging scientists, molecular scientists, biostatisticians, informaticians, implementation scientists, service users and commissioners.

You will be primarily based in the Manchester Centre for Health Economics (http://research.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/healtheconomics). You will join a growing team of leading health economists undertaking research on the supply, organisation, valuation and evaluation of healthcare. You will be expected to make a full contribution to the development of this team.

This role will offer you opportunities to develop your Mathematical Modelling skills, apply these skills to the high profile research projects and work with leading clinicians and researchers. The successful applicant will develop key skills in:

  • building and populating mathematical models
  • gathering, reviewing and synthesising relevant literature using appropriate systematic search methods
  • collating and analysing data from national databases
  • working collaboratively with research team members
