Build a Rewarding Career
Design things differently
Research Fellow in Meta Materialsand Design
Salary: Grade 524 (£31,607 p.a.)
36-month fixed-term contract (end date: June 2027)
About the Role
The 4D Materials and Printing Lab in the Department of Engineering at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow for the EPSRC funded research project: Integrated Material-Modelling-Manufacturing paradigm for Mechanical Meta-regulators (I5M). The research programme is led by NTU in partnership with Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, National Composites Centre, Manufacturing Technology Centre, NHS Nottingham University Hospitals, Far-UK Ltd, General Lattice, RHEON LABS, and the UK Metamaterial Network.
The vision of I5M project is to exploit inherent energy dissipation features of Hyper-ThermoVisco-Pseudoelastic (HTVP) Materials and develop a novel Integrated Material-Modelling-Manufacturing paradigm to create a new class of Mechanical metamaterials, so-called Meta-regulators (I5M) with minimal computational cost, material usage and expert interference. It aims to provide a fundamental understanding of HTVP behaviours, formulate finite element solutions for analysing meta-regulators, and develop inverse design tools and guidelines to achieve targeted properties. The I5M develops metamaterials with programmable quasi-zero stiffness, quasi-constant force regulation, tuneable vibration isolation and fatigue-tolerant features fabricated by sustainable 3D printing.
For more details, please take a look at the job description & person specification attached. To apply, please complete an online application and outline how you meet the knowledge, skills and experience requirements detailed in the person specification. We'll still consider applications even if you don't meet every single one of the requirements, so don't be put off if you don't match them perfectly.
