About the Role
Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.
Salary: Up to £75,000 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Are you an accomplished Risk Manager looking for a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of Large Capital Projects in the energy sector? If so, we have an exciting role for you at SSE. We are seeking a motivated individual with expert knowledge of risk management techniques to join our team of Risk Managers. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective application of risk management practices, fostering a culture of excellence within our Large Capital Projects business unit. As Risk Manager you will:
- Oversee risk management activities across Large Capital Projects (LCP), ensuring that practices are effective and aligned with project objectives. Continuously improve and review risk management processes at business unit, programme, and project levels.
- Working as part of a Risk Management team providing independent challenge to Large Capital Projects and providing guidance and support to project teams, enabling them to achieve their goals.
- Act as an advocate for risk management within Large Capital Project Business Units, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to project teams and Risk Analysts.
- Review risk management recommendations from LCP Project Assurance Reviews, identifying trends and developing solutions.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on risk for management and key stakeholders.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role youll bring excellent communication skills and a strong customer focused approach, it is essential you have strong influencing skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships. In addition, wed love you to have:
- Significant knowledge and understanding of delivery of large capital projects in a utility, development, infrastructure, oil and gas or process environment, including the risk management processes as part of the Large Capital Projects Governance Framework Manual.
- Ability to quickly understand strengths and weakness of business processes, articulate and present risks in their strategic context, and assess suitability on actions needed.
- Depth of knowledge in industry standard Risk Management techniques and tools, including Primevera/Safran and knowledge of Safran Risk or Primevera Risk Analysis.
- Experience of working with contracts (particularly NEC3), and different contracting strategies such as Engineering Procure and Construct (EPC) and multi-contract package management would be preferred.
- Ideally, you should have a qualification related to Project, Risk Management or Engineering, and be able to demonstrate an expert knowledge of the risk management process and methods of risk identification, assessment, treatment, and monitoring techniques at project level.

Large Capital Project Services (LCPS) is responsible for providing the Group Executive Committee and SSE's Business Unit Executive Committees with independent assurance services to help inform investment decisions and manage the performance of Large Capital Projects throughout their lifecycle to realise the benefits within the Project Business Case and the wider strategic Business objectives.
