SAMPLES DESPATCH ASSISTANT
Location: Warrington Site
Reporting to: Head of Laboratory
Immediate Start
(Fixed term for 3 months with the possibility to be made permanent for the right candidate)

This role is to provide a focal point for commercial and experimental sample requests and to coordinate activities related to despatch and follow up. The business’ sales are reliant on the timely supply of samples to prospective customers to achieve its growth plans. In addition, it is necessary to record all sample despatches in order to have data available for Business Analysis activities.
The number of Samples Despatched in a year is normally between 1500 and 2000 and the role therefore requires a disciplined and structured approach to handling this volume of requested samples. In addition, the job holder will be expected to provide experimental support to lab and pilot plant experiments from time to time as directed by the Laboratory Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The following responsibilities are associated with this job role but are not limited to:
  • To ensure that the sample despatch lab is maintained to agreed standards of safety, housekeeping and hygiene in order to ensure that an acceptable working environment is maintained.
  • To organise stores so that samples are readily identifiable and accessible.
  • To act as the main point of contact for commercial sample requests.
  • To ensure that commercial samples are despatched within an agreed timescale and to a defined standard.
  • To record all sample despatch records according to local procedures.
  • To ensure that adequate stocks of samples are maintained in the warehouse and the laboratory.
  • To report sample despatch statistics to Lab Manager on a monthly basis.
  • To assist in assigned product and process development-related experimental work in the lab when requested to do so by line manager.
  • To plan all work assigned, on a daily basis, such that agreed deadlines are met.
  • To ensure that all work carried out is recorded in the appropriate format and filed in the appropriate manner in order to ensure traceability.

QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED SKILLS
Qualifications
  • A-level or HND (or equivalent) in science, preferably chemistry.
Experience
  • Prior experience in organising and shipment of chemical samples
  • Familiarity with safety datasheets
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Good oral, written communications, numeracy and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of chemistry and polymers
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi-task and to work under pressure with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
