Role Overview:

We are looking for a highly experienced and self-motivated Senior Developer specialising in the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, PHP) stack to join our team. This unique position is designed for a solo developer capable of independently driving the project forward. The primary focus will be on upgrading our existing PHP web applications from PHP5 to PHP8, alongside database migration, defect resolution, and the eventual decommissioning of the legacy system.

Key Responsibilities:

• PHP Web Application Development: Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code for PHP web applications, ensuring compatibility with PHP8.
• Database Management: Utilise your expertise in MySQL/MariaDB for database development, including schema design, query optimisation, and migration strategies.
• LDAP Integration: Work with LDAP (preferably OpenLDAP) for managing authentication and directory services.
• Code Migration: Lead the migration process of application code from PHP5 to PHP8, addressing all deprecated features and backward incompatibilities.
• Defect Resolution: Identify, diagnose, and resolve defects within the application, ensuring a seamless user experience.
• Testing Support: Collaborate with the QA team to support testing phases, identifying and fixing issues to ensure quality and stability.
• Data Migration: Manage the migration of database data to the updated system, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
• System Switchover and Decommissioning: Execute the go-live process for the new system and oversee the decommissioning of the legacy system, ensuring a smooth transition.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience with the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, PHP) in a senior developer capacity.
• Strong proficiency in PHP web application development and familiarity with upgrading PHP versions.
• In-depth knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB, including database design, optimisation, and migration.
• Experience with LDAP, preferably OpenLDAP, for directory services.
• Ability to independently lead projects with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-direction and initiative.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the capability to address defects and support testing phases effectively.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work as part of a team even while driving projects independently.
