Scientific Services Team Leader (Medical Education)
Locations: Chester, London or Manchester
Permanent role, hybrid working

Springer Healthcare is the pharmaceutical industry-focused subsidiary of Springer Nature, a leading publisher of Medical Educational products for the healthcare community. 

We’re looking for a Scientific Team Leader to join a dynamic group delivering high-quality Medical Education for global clients. You will lead, develop and line manage a talented team of medical writers creating innovative and evidence-based solutions to educate healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

Project delivery

• Provide strategic direction and lead all aspects of tactical delivery of scientific content for a range of Medical Education projects
• Review scientific content to ensure educational objectives, internal quality standards, agreed specifications, budgets and timeframes are met
• Ensure adequate resourcing is maintained across all projects

Medical writer development

• Develop team writers to their full potential and to meet customer and business needs:
• Set writers’ objectives and personal development plans and monitor progress throughout the year
• Provide coaching, mentoring and training, where required
• Provide supervision to ensure individual/team output is maintained

Business planning/commercial

• Provide support to the Business Development team through identification of opportunities, proposal development and pitch preparation and attendance
• Provide editorial advice to the management team (e.g. quality standards, training needs and resourcing)
• Maintain broad awareness of developments in relevant therapeutic areas and discipline, editorial issues and technological developments within publishing and communications, and the wider company’s product portfolio

Financial

• Record and monitor actual time spent on a project against budgeted time, and complete timesheets in an accurate and timely manner
• Monitor own and writers’ adherence to budget and utilisation rates and take remedial action, if required
• Contribute to revenue targets by ensuring that projects meet schedules

Organisational and teamwork

• Assist the Scientific Services Director in review of test projects and/or recruitment by interviewing candidates, if required
• Support team working principles and collaboration within the project team(s) and other departments and business units within the company
• Line management of up to four direct reports (Senior Medical Writers, Medical Writers)
• Provide recommendations to the Scientific Services Director for promotions

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Experience

Essential

• Proven medical writing experience in a medical communications agency, with reviewing and coaching/mentoring experience
• Demonstrable experience of client liaison and interaction including client visits and on-site experience
• Proven ability in all aspects across a broad range of content and deliverables.
• Management or supervisory experience

Desirable

• Demonstrable experience of working within creative, digital formats such as animations, web sites, podcasts, e-learning modules and others

Skills

Essential

• Proven medical writing skills and able to demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Proven line management skills
• Proven experience and confident in interacting with clients and medical experts
• A proactive and flexible team player with a collaborative approach
• Proven organisation/time management and leadership skills and highly computer literate with good working knowledge of common software
