Craven College is an aspirational College set in friendly and inclusive rural campuses in Skipton within the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, at The Aviation Academy based airside at Leeds Bradford Airport and at Evolve in the heart of Ripon. We are a Good College (Ofsted 2018) and offer full-time courses for 16-18 year olds, outstanding apprenticeships, courses for young people with special educational needs, part-time courses and degree level courses with a mission statement of ‘enriching lives through learning’. Tyro Training is our commercial training division which offers a wide range of training courses for both individuals and businesses in Skipton.
We continuously invest in our excellent, industry standard facilities with a new £1.6m purpose-built Animal Management Centre on our Aireville Campus followed in 2022 by the construction of new equestrian facilities including an international sized arena and outdoor warm up area.
We are currently seeking to employ a committed and motivated SEND Manager, who will lead and manage a team of SEND professionals, monitor the SEND service and delivery to ensure students’ needs are met and that inclusivity underpins the College’s support structure. You will be a passionate and experienced SEND practitioner with experience of teaching or working closely alongside curriculum teams to develop outcomes for students who face barriers to learning. This role will ensure that the service directly contributes to positive student outcomes, improved success rates, appropriate progression, and preparation for adulthood for every student who uses the service.
This role will ensure the provision of high-quality transition guidance and planning, matching curriculum provision to individual student need, liaising with external agencies, feeder schools and college staff to ensure that appropriate support/ assistive technology is in place and to assist students to achieve their learning outcomes and goals. You will ensure that student outcomes are monitored and met.
The post holder must have knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation and how these impact on the local offer. Have experience of supporting young people and adults in FE and HE, with special educational needs and disabilities and have a good working knowledge of SEND.
Essential requirements:
Education and training
- SENCO qualification or relevant academic or vocational qualification to degree level or equivalent, and relevant current experience of professional development.
- Minimum of Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C)
- As part of your continued professional development you will be required to undergo any training as deemed necessary by Craven College.
Specialist Knowledge and skills
- Previous, successful experience of working with young people in an educational setting.
- Experience of management of support for students with SEND including addressing a range of learners’ needs and interests.
- Previous experience of managing and organising and deploying staff teams.
- Experience of making effective use of learner progress tracking systems and action planning.
- An ability to analyse, summarise, evaluate and communicate data.
- Excellent planning and time management skills together with good administrative abilities.
- Evidence of working collaboratively with others to improve practice.
- Previous experience of preparing, delivering or sourcing relevant training for staff teams.
- Willingness and ability to undertake further professional development linked to the needs of the college.
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to converse at ease with students, parents, staff and members of the public and provide advice
- Ability to promote new initiatives across the college
- Commitment to College policies i.e. Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding and Quality Assurance.
- Ability to use initiative and be innovative in resolving issues / complaints
- Understanding of the Common Inspection Framework and its application in the FE sector
- Ability to work flexibly and be able to travel between College sites and to external agencies
- Excellent communication and presentation skills both written and verbal and to a wide range of audiences.
- Proficient in digital literacy as appropriate to the role or willing to work towards.
