They are looking for an experienced Senior Controls and Instruments (C&I) Engineer to join their expanding team. This will be a challenging, yet rewarding role that will require a passion to a drive things through to completion and work as part of a team developing the next generation of carbon capture technology.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and enforcing best practice, managing, and growing the Controls and Instrumentation function to meet the company’s needs.
Job Description
Senior C&I Engineer with knowledge of PLC programming, HMIs, PID loops or similar. Previous experience of programming in IEC 61131 languages is essential.
The ideal candidate will be a Chartered C&I Engineer with several years practical experience in a process plant or pilot plant environment and at least 3 years as a Team Leader or Manager. The successful candidate will oversee the C&I function in the following area: Design, Procurement, Commissioning & Data acquisition.
Role and Responsibilities
- Working as part of a team with experienced control engineers, process engineers and Chemists, to create and develop product control designs
- Pursue market leading technologies in order to utilise the most up to date control designs.
- Deliver innovative technical advancements in control solutions for a demanding and technically complex environment
- Delivering the most energy efficient solutions for the control environment designed.
- Manage the controlled development and procurement of all or part of our control systems, demonstrating proficiency in developing the HMI, control system sizing, specification of instruments maintenance of the instrument list and instrument cable routings based on the P&IDs and layout of the plants and the instrument list
- Manage suppliers through the development of Master Specifications, RFQs, RFPs, supplier evaluation and scope management via defined milestones.
- Demonstrate proficiency in commissioning plant including designing, programming and tuning control loops on our PLCs based on the control philosophy, control narratives and loop diagrams. Designing junction, marshalling and PLC panel layouts and interfacing with the SCADA system and HMI.
- It is desirable the ideal candidate would also be proficient in data acquisition for testing and R&D functions.
Must Have
- Experience of programming in IEC 61131 languages
- A flair for innovative design solutions

Key skills
- Computer literate, with structured understanding of software design
- A good understanding of industrial communication protocols Modbus etc
- Electrical commissioning experience
- Ability to read electrical drawings, trouble shoot problems and rectify
Non-essential skills, but nice to have
- SQL database design and development
- Basic Structured text Knowledge
- Understanding of Python
- A process engineering background
