Job description

  • Location: Remote working with travel as required
  • Salary: circa. £76k inc car allowance

Are you an experienced Development Manager with a strong track record in managing large-scale, complex, or high-risk projects? Do you excel in dynamic environments and have a passion for achieving outstanding results? Anchor is seeking a dedicated professional to join our high-performing team as a Senior Development Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee large-scale, complex, or high-risk development projects, ensuring alignment with the business case.
  • Secure approvals to proceed to build contracts and report performance at appropriate governance levels.
  • Set clear expectations and lead a client team of consultants to deliver multiple construction projects.
  • Monitor site activities and contract performance to ensure projects meet quality standards, budgets, and timescales.
  • Consistently manage and control schemes throughout the delivery phase, adhering to approved budgets and programmes. Re-run financial appraisals as necessary and seek approval for required changes.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks to ensure the business case is realized, while reporting on risks and opportunities.
  • Employ strong commercial disciplines to drive development schemes with energy, pace, and a focus on quality.
  • Provide leadership and management for development officers.
  • Contribute to Anchor's strategic goal of growing by 500 homes per year.

About You

To be successful in this role ideally you will have/be:

  • Educated to degree/HNC level or equivalent.
  • Project Management qualification (APM, Prince2, MSP), professional membership (MCIOB, MRICS, CIH), CSCS card holder.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business purposes.
  • Proven track record in development construction delivery and project management across multiple projects, ideally within residential developments.
  • Strong understanding of the technical and commercial aspects of new developments, including quality control.
  • Extensive knowledge of the building industry, including materials, trades, methods, and legal requirements.
  • Familiarity with QA procedures.
  • Ability to understand and meet the needs and aspirations of various internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience managing commercial relationships and taking complex housing schemes through to practical completion.
  • Expertise in building safety compliance and audit compliance.
  • Proficiency in project budgeting, cash flow management, and reporting on complex appraisal models.
  • Skilled in contractor procurement and contract administration & management, including multi-disciplinary professional team management.
  • Experience in managing underperformance from consultants and contractors to meet targets for programme, cost, and quality.
  • Competence in dispute resolution and risk mitigation.
  • Knowledge of the housing and care needs of older people is desirable.
