Salary: £45,585 to £48,350 with progression to £54,395 per annum

The Education Policy and Governance Service is looking for someone to join them on a 12-month fixed-term basis to help us scope our future strategic goals for Transnational Education. If you have experience of UK and international higher education, policy and process development and implementation, continuous improvement and quality assurance in an education setting we want you to bring those skills to Newcastle University to help bring about our vision of an Education for Life and fulfil our Global mission.

 

You will work with senior stakeholders, colleagues and students, leading on the development of the University’s strategic approach to Transnational Education as well as supporting the development of current opportunities for international education partnerships (including recruitment pathways and articulation). 

 

We are based in Kings Gate in the heart of the University and Newcastle city centre.

The role is offered on a 12-month fixed term full-time basis, although there is the possibility of a permanent post (subject to funding). The service operates on a blended working model with time working remotely and in the office. The hiring manager will discuss the requirements of the role, should you be invited to interview.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Supporting senior stakeholders to develop the University’s strategic approach to Transnational Education aligned with the University’s Education and Global Strategies
  • Providing analysis and assessment of new and existing opportunities for Transnational Education to the PVC Education, PVC Global, and other senior stakeholders
  • Working with the Head of Education Policy and Governance, other team members and key stakeholders in the International Office and Legal Services to support the development and successful implementation of Transnational Education opportunities
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key contacts in faculties and academic units in relation to their current and developing Transnational Education offering
  • Writing and presenting reports/briefing papers and making recommendations to University Education Committee, University Global Committee and other key committees and group
  • Engaging with external bodies and networks in the UK and internationally in relation to current and future trends and the effective delivery and quality assurance of Transnational Education
  • Developing and enhancing the policy and processes relating to the requirements for the development, approval and internal quality assurance of Transnational Education; taking into account Newcastle University, UK, international, and local overseas quality assurance and regulatory requirements, and the wider political and reputation risk relating to Transnational Education
  • Working with the Head of Education Policy and Governance and key stakeholders to identify and scope the resources needed to support the proposed strategic approach Transnational Education
  • Any other duties, consistent with the post’s grade, as requested by Head of Education Policy and Governance 


The Person (Essential) 
 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience  

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the UK and international higher education environment
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of UK expectations for the quality assurance of higher education
  • Experience of developing and successfully implementing policy within a higher education setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues in faculties, academic units, and professional services at all levels of the University
  • Effective leadership, managerial and motivational skills, including experience of building and developing teams
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels within the institution and externally
  • Ability to analyse and understand data and synthesise a wide range of sources of evidence and information to generate original ideas and insights
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write focused evidence-based reports and make informed recommendations
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and co-operatively with colleagues as part of a team
  • Ability to proactively develop own agenda and priorities and manage workload and tasks to meet the needs of the role
  • Project management skills
  • Competence in the use of IT to support administrative processes, and analytical and process improvement skills for both data and systems
