Pray As You Go is a daily podcast and app, providing short prayer sessions and extra content designed to help people notice God in their everyday lives. Pray As You Go has existed as a podcast for 18 years and now reaches a daily combined audience of almost 200,000 listeners a day, from a variety of Christian denominations. We are a small and passionate team who work collaboratively with the Jesuits in Britain to help people pray wherever they find themselves in life.
About the Position
We are seeking a Senior Full-Stack Developer with experience in React Native and NextJS. The candidate will be part of a small team focused on developing a new version of our existing app, which has a significant user base. The role involves building the new version of the app from scratch with an emphasis on device compatibility and a smooth user experience. After the initial launch, the focus will be on building new features that enhance the user’s experience.
Key Responsibilities
● Build out the new version of the React Native application working together with the Product Designer.
● Develop a streamlined website experience and a simple API for serving content to the frontend clients.
● Implement effective monitoring and testing for the application to ensure compatibility across a wide range of devices.
● Work closely with the Tech Manager to deliver regular updates to the application and share these updates with the rest of the team
Experience you bring to the team
● At least 5 years of experience building web or mobile applications
● At least 3 years of experience with React (NextJS experience is a
plus!)
● At least 2 years of experience using React Native
● Ability to work independently and make decisions in the early
stages of the project, seeing things through to deliver a high- quality application
● Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library & Playwright/Cypress
● Experience in implementing monitoring to help catch production issues quickly
● Maintain a high-quality codebase that makes it easy to add new features
What technology you’ll be working with
● Typescript on the frontend & backend
● Monorepo with:
○ React Native to develop our iOS and Android cross platform application
○ NextJS for the web client and API (hosted on Vercel)
○ React Query & tRPC for end-to-end type safety
● Sentry for error monitoring
● Jest, React Testing Library & Playwright for testing
● Any useful tools that you love and will contribute to a better experience for the users!
Desired Person Profile:
· Knowledge and sympathy for the Christian / Catholic Church
· Some knowledge of Ignatian Spirituality and/or the Jesuits
· A team-focused, collaborative mindset
· Good communication skills
· Strong attention to detail
· Skilled in problem solving
Application Process
The interview process will involve an introductory call to discuss the role in more detail and answer any questions you have about Pray As You Go and the team, followed by a technical interview shortly afterwards.
Reporting to: Technical Manager
Office Base: 114 Mount Street, W1K 3AH Hours: 35 hours per week
Probation period: 6 months
Salary: £55,000- £75,000 per year depending on experience Pension: 5% paid by employer
