Temporary Governance Opportunity

Your new role

  • Have overall administrative responsibility for managing and coordinating one of the Primary University Committees (e.g. Court, Senate, University Executive, or Global Operations Executive) and related Committees.
  • Have line management responsibility for those who service the applicable sub-committees and their workloads.
  • Have delegated ownership for the annual review of the governance related regulations, policies and procedure, independently reviewing and making recommendations for change to the University's institutional policies, identifying areas for further development, and taking these forward with colleagues as appropriate, to ensure they remain fit for purpose .
  • Work with senior colleagues across the University to ensure existing Regulations, Policies and Procedures remain fit for purpose, are consistently applied across the whole institution, and ensuring the University meet its objectives concerning regulations and policies within agreed timescales.
  • Prepare timely reports, reviewing and revising the reporting mechanisms, and ensure consistency of approach and that the University operates in compliance with its own internal constitutional rules and with a range of external legislation and codes of practice.
  • Working with peers, co-manage the overall University Committee servicing provision and processes, by planning and prioritising the annual schedule of business for each meeting of the primary University Committees, ensuring that deadlines for reporting to the Court, the Senate and the University Executive are adhered to and actions are progressed.
  • Manage small-scale governance processimprovement projects, reviewing processes from end to end, recommending andimplementing change plans, through the development, implementation and continuousimprovement of lean processes.
  • Develop and manage internal and external facingcommunications relating to the role, provideancillary support for other governance relatedactivities undertaken by the Policy and Governance Division, as requested bythe Head of Policy and Governance Division.
    What you'll need to succeed
  • 1. Educated to first degree level or equivalent or equivalent practical experience in the workplace2. Experience of working within a similar environment as outlined above
    3. Ability to coach, motivate, assess and manage a team, including setting objectives
    4. Competent in the use of relevant IT packages
    5. Proven relevant experience of high-level working with senior colleagues to develop and maintain institutional/organisation wide regulations, policies and committee servicing which will have been acquired over a number of years
    6. Good knowledge and understanding of relevant legal, statutory and governance applications and turning them into good practice
    7. Excellent interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills, able to understand and communicate complex issues effectively
    8. At least two years' experience of working in a university Secretariat or Governance environment
