About us

UCL’s Faculty of Laws is a dynamic, highly respected and friendly community, which enjoys global recognition for the quality of its teaching and research. For almost 200 years, UCL Laws has been one of the leading centres of legal education in the world. Recognised as offering an outstanding educational experience to our students, we combine a strong theoretical foundation in the law with practical teaching from world-leading academics and practitioners.

About the role

UCL’s Faculty of Laws is looking to appoint a Senior HR Officer as the Faculty’s first point of contact for all aspects of HR, including recruitment, payments and pensions, promotions, appraisals, parental leave arrangements and special forms of leave. The role-holder is a key member of the Faculty’s experienced and highly respected professional services team, which is structured to support defined areas of academic activity and the governance, management and operational leadership of the Faculty.

The Senior HR Officer specialises in leading and delivering a comprehensive HR service, facilitating effective staffing management at all levels within the Faculty. The post-holder will provide advice and guidance on UCL HR policies and procedures to staff and managers to ensure they understand their obligations so that the highest levels of compliance are maintained.

The role will also play a part in implementing the Faculty’s vision for an inclusive law school through supporting colleagues with the EDI agenda and inclusion policies as appropriate.

The role is offered as a fixed term contract for 12 months or is available as a secondment opportunity for internal candidates, to cover a period of maternity leave.

About you

The successful candidate will be an experienced HR professional with up-to-date knowledge of HR and staffing issues and their administration. They will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and the ability to co-ordinate a range of simultaneous tasks whilst maintaining a meticulous degree of accuracy and attention to detail. This will include prioritising individual and team workloads in the context of deadlines and high volume. The role holder must also have strong IT skills and experience in supporting colleagues with HR regulations and processes, offering expert advice and guidance as appropriate.
