The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.
We are now seeking to recruit a Senior Officer on a full-time, fixed term basis to join our team in the East Midlands region, in Nottingham. This is an exciting opportunity to be a crucial part of the regional management team of the National Education Union.
The successful candidate will contribute to the strength of the Union and to the Union’s priorities for supporting, engaging and empowering members.
As a member of the regional management team and working to the Regional Secretary, they will manage a small team of staff and have responsibility for the assessment and allocation of casework, assist in strategic regional planning, support members’ recruitment work and also assist in the delivery of the training programme in the region.
To be successful in this role, applicants will need to have solid knowledge of trade union organising, employment practices and also have a good understanding of the NEU’s political, educational and legal context, confidently representing the Union externally to a range of different audiences.
Prospective applicants are also advised that your normal place of work will be the NEU office specified in this advert and that the NEU operates ‘Blended Working Arrangements’ for office-based staff, which means you will typically need to be based in the designated NEU office for 3-4 days a week (based on a full-time contract), with the remaining days based at home, and subject to business needs. Travel arrangements will be discussed on a case-by-case basis at the interview or offer stage.
In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including a non-superannuable luncheon allowance currently set at £1308, 35 days annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a defined benefit pension scheme. The salary and stated benefits can be calculated on a pro-rata basis.
