The role You will lead the delivery of the University of Bristol’s impact case studies for REF2029. A strong pipeline of >300 potential case studies is in place and other teams are advising on the development of new impacts. Your role will be to manage the collection of evidence, writing and reviewing of drafts (by academics and your team), and supporting each School to produce the required number of high-quality case studies by autumn 2028. You will work directly with Impact and Research Directors in Schools and Faculties, with their local REF impact support staff, and manage a small team of REF Impact Associates. You will maintain an expert knowledge of evidencing, writing, and curating compelling case studies that showcase the impact of the University’s research and adhere to REF guidelines. The role involves working closely with academics to evaluate, structure and refine the narratives, assisting with the identification and incorporation of evidence to show the reach and significance of their impact. What will you be doing? Plan and deliver the REF2029 Impact project across the University, monitor progress and quality of deliverables from the project team and manage work-loads.Run monthly Project Board meetings and deputise, as required, for Director of Research Impact to support the delivery of the project within agreed limits for time, cost and quality.Work with the REF2029 Programme Board, Faculty Research Directors, School Impact Directors and other academic and professional services staff to deliver and support the Project work including planning, initiating, delivering and closing the Project, and identifying process improvements in the methodology.Lead the editorial development of a portfolio of impact case studies for REF, managing team drafting and editing them in collaboration with academic colleagues; and undertaking this yourself as appropriate.Ensure that the project team and School Impact Directors have the knowledge and expertise to identify which case studies will benefit most from editorial and evidencing input.Monitor and maintain records and develop analyses of the impact pipeline to inform the University’s planning.Maintain an expert knowledge of impact elements of the Research Excellence Framework (REF), to provide expert advice and guidance to academics and colleagues across the Division You should apply if We are looking for a great Project Manager and diplomat, who can lead a team of storytellers and forensic investigators! You will have a track record of relevant experience in research impact and working in a senior capacity in a project environment. You will have proven experience of managing high value, high profile, and auditable projects, and of the developing systems, processes and reviews for projects. You should be able to provide persuasive guidance to groups and individuals, and work with people at all levels of seniority. This role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously and solving problems with initiative and creativity. Finally, you and the REF Impact team will be finding evidence of research impact and analysing quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources, to provide insight, advice, and compelling narratives for our academics. Therefore, you should have a proven ability to solve complex problems and lead others in delivering those solutions.
