Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a newly established In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) team, developing new IVD products for the pathology market from our Waltham site. As part of an IVD team, you will be expected to understand and work under ISO13485 guidelines in the verification and validation of new products for the pathology field, utilizing immunohistochemistry best practices. This role will be part of the R&D function and reports to the Validation & Technical Quality Department.   

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Perform routine automated Immunohistochemistry assays using DAKO and Leica Bond Rx automated systems.  
  • Perform standardized concentration assessment using Nanodrop or equivalent technique.  
  • Perform accurate, consistent, high-quality microtomy. 
  • Perform QC and digitization of IHC slides (Leica Aperio AT2 slide scanner) 
  • Order and receipt of lab consumables. 
  • Record experimental details according to in-house SOP’s following ISO13485 standards. 
  • Liaise with service engineers and conduct Performance Qualification assessments of equipment 
  • Abide by Laboratory SOPs and work within Abcam EHS, Ethical and Quality standards 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the role of an In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Team Member should possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field, with a preference for a Master's degree, though it is not mandatory. Essential qualifications include a minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience, specifically in immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques, along with proficiency in operating automated systems such as DAKO and Leica Bond Rx. They should also demonstrate competence in conducting standardized concentration assessments, accurate microtomy, and quality control processes, including digitizing IHC slides. Strong adherence to ISO13485 guidelines and in-house SOPs is crucial, as is the ability to manage lab consumables efficiently.

Effective communication and teamwork skills are vital for liaising with service engineers and collaborating within the IVD team. Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance is expected, and a commitment to upholding ethical and quality standards is essential. A preference is given to candidates with additional qualifications such as a Master's degree, experience in IVD product development, and knowledge of tissue-based biomarker analysis within the pathology field.
