Job Purpose:
As a Senior Scientist in our clients Advanced Materials team, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of materials science. We're on the lookout for a passionate individual to lead R&D and consultancy projects across diverse sectors such as aerospace, defence, nuclear energy, net-zero, healthcare, and more.
What you’ll do:
If you’d like to work on the cutting edge of materials and processes development, this is the perfect place to demonstrate and improve your skills. In this role you will work in understanding products and applications, using on site facilities to research novel ceramics production from bench scale through to pilot plant and manufacturing, ensuring a smooth transfer from bench to plant.
- Lead pre-order technical scoping activities.
- Serve as the project-specific technical lead, managing work assignments, client updates, presentations, and final report writing.
- Oversee laboratory management and ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards
- Develop innovative processing and testing procedures, including custom processing and testing rigs
Your background:
We are seeking someone with a PhD in the field of Ceramic Materials or equivalent / related field (other Materials Science areas for example).
You will have proficiency in at least two of the following areas:
- Advanced ceramic powder processing, characterization, and forming
- Production and analysis of ceramic slurries, including rheology techniques
- Thermal analysis techniques (TGA, DSC, thermal conductivity)
- Operation and configuration of furnaces for advanced ceramic processing
- High-temperature inorganic chemistry
- Ceramic composite systems
Knowledge of non-oxide ceramic systems (beneficial but not essential)
Familiarity with health and safety requirements and procedures for materials R&D facilities
Industry experience is not essential
Knowledge/Skills:
- Needs a rigorous scientific approach while also being willing to experiment with novel ideas.
- Exceptional communication skills both written and oral
- Ability to work as part of a team to resolve any challenges that may arise
- Practical, hands-on approach
- Excellent lab etiquette standards
- Coach junior members of the team
