What will I be doing?

Somerset Council is a permitting authority and as part of the team you will help in ensuring compliance with the Councils statutory obligation under legislation in applying New Roads & Street Works 1991 (NRSWA) and the associated requirements of the Traffic Management System Act 2004 (TMA).

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training, and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade c/4 (or equivalent) or above, including English and Maths.
  • Already have some experience in Street Works and looking to further your knowledge and experience. It is also expected that you will have some experience working in a supervisory role or are looking to move into a supervisory role.
  • Some familiarity with the permitting process and the Dft Street Manager Process.
  • Strong ICT skills and experience using databases and other ICT applications, including bespoke software.
  • Ideally NRSWA 1991 Street works Supervisor Qualifications; or similar, otherwise training will be provided.

We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team. You can always contact the hiring manager for a chat if there’s anything you want to talk about before you apply.
