City of London, hybrid working model (2 days in London)

A global brand in the insurance industry is hiring an ambitious and experienced indirect tax professional to add to their established team in London. Reporting directly to the Head of Tax, the successful candidate will join a large, high-profile team with excellent resources.

This position is purposed to:

• Provide direction and leadership to the indirect tax function, including management of direct reports in VAT
• Act as the internal and external SME on VAT related matters
• Make active contributions to tax strategy from a VAT perspective
• Contribute to tax team/cross-functional projects as related to indirect taxes

This position is advisory and business partnering-led in nature, supporting on transactions and key projects which impact the business. However, ownership of VAT will include overseeing compliance processes, including quarterly VAT returns. This organisation is undergoing significant change and transformation, offering an excellent platform for someone looking to make their mark on an in-house VAT function.

While the hiring manager is equally open to industry or practice experience, we anticipate this makes an excellent first move in-house for the VAT Senior Manager/VAT Associate Director with demonstrable insurance (or wider FS) experience and in-house aspirations.

The successful candidate

• Substantial VAT experience gained in the financial services
• Experience managing direct reports
• Experience in managing and negotiating PESMs
• Strong UK VAT compliance/advisory experience, with international exposure advantageous
• Solid communication skills
• Prior experience in a client/market-facing position considered advantageous
• Experience in managing relations with outsourced advisors and tax authorities
• Insurance experience considered advantageous
