We have an exciting opportunity for a Site Head of Engineering to join Norgine in Hengoed.
The Site Head of Production (SHOE) role will assume overall responsibility and accountability for all Engineering activities across the site. This will include people and budgetary management and ensuring that all engineering activities are undertaken safely.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy and Development
- Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve business performance
- Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities for improvement
- Take ownership of the engineering policy, guidelines and any associated documents and policies. Develop and manage the 5-year Engineering plan for the site
General and Task Management
- Ensure that there is a strong culture of CI in all aspects of Engineering and equipment support
- Take leadership for production equipment performance in relation to reliability, SMED, breakdown and PPM. Drive Operational Excellence through Engineering Excellence
- Own KPI's relating to equipment performance and uptime for production and facility processes. Providing technical support and leadership to the business and onsite engineering teams
- Responsible for overseeing all aspects of build design, from contract award to handover. Ensure any new equipment or engineering activity is supported with appropriate qualification documentation.
- Support project management to cross functional activity required for project execution
- Operate a process for safe selection of external contractors. In conjunction with the Purchasing team to ensure all external contracts are regularly reviewed to ensure best value
- Report on Engineering activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators
- Ensure that Environmental, Health and Safety, engineering and quality standards and procedures are adhered to.
People Management
- Provide leadership to departments under control and coach, mentor and develop direct reports and manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions
- Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance
- Responsible for developing the appropriate organisational structure, resource plans and culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables
- Complete regular performance reviews, manage attendance, holidays, disciplinary issues, and procedures as appropriate
Financial Budget and Control
- Prepare the annual Engineering budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects
- Input and hold responsibility for engineering budgets and spend
Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
- Work with the rest of the leadership team to decide which engineering projects are the highest priority against the business targets and which can be executed with the available resource
- Work collaboratively, negotiate, and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the engineering strategy
- Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on engineering activities
Environmental
- Review environmental strategies that impact on future ways of operating and ensure implementation where possible. Review the use of technological systems that support a more environmentally responsible approach
- Ensure environmental audits for engineering activities are carried out
- Review opportunities to be as environmentally responsible as possible
Skills and Attributes:
- Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development
- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills. Strong and confident negotiator with the ability to negotiate at all levels
- Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Commercially and financially astute with experience of managing budgets
Qualifications and Experience
- Educated to degree level (preferably Masters) in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent NVQ Level 7 qualification.
- Fellow or Chartered Member of an industry related Professional Body
- Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes, and systems
- Proven project management and supplier management experience
- Experience of working within a cGMP environment
- A thorough knowledge of Quality Management Systems, cGMP and Health and Safety legislation relating to this role.
