Job Advert
Deadline for applications: We'll be reviewing applications as they're received, so get your application in!
Reports to: Head of Digital
Location: Gateshead (we’re a hybrid organisation, in the office Tue-Thu and at home Mon and Fri)
Working hours: Mon–Fri, 9am-5pm (there’ll be some out of hours work for concerts and events, but you’ll always get TOIL)
Salary: From SCP 29 £29,577 per annum
About The Glasshouse International Centre for Music
We’re a place where you can hear rock legends or pop icons on the same night as folk trios or opera singers. Where new musicians
are nurtured and showcased on the same stages as platinum-selling performers. And where youth choirs and tambourine- shaking
toddlers practice in the same spaces as our acclaimed orchestra Royal Northern Sinfonia.
Whether you’re front of house, waiting in the wings or keeping things running behind the scenes you will be part of a team that
means 2 million people enjoy top – notch gigs, concerts and classes in our own venue at Gateshead Quays, out in communities across
the North East and through live- streamed performances and digital lessons.
About you
You’ll be joining a small but ambitious Digital team who are eager to welcome you into the fold to help take our online presence
to the next level. This is a brand-new role so you’ll be someone who can get stuck right in, bring your creativity – and a
strategic mind - to the table, and bring others along for the ride with your expertise and enthusiasm for how Social Media and
content can create meaningful connections with people. And help build a brand.
You’ll have a keen ear and eye for a story. There’s a lot happening across our programme, building, and our region at any time and
it’ll be your job to grab it and tell our audiences all about it with engaging, creative online content. You love meeting and
spending time with people – whether that’s colleagues, musicians, players in our home orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, or
someone in the café. You enjoy sharing what you know, learning on the job from your fantastic colleagues, and hearing what others
have to say to find new ways to celebrate all the ways music lives and grows at The Glasshouse.
It'll be busy, but you secretly love being pulled in many different directions at once. You’re creative and reactive. And you’re
an excellent project manager, making impressive but achievable plans for yourself (and others) to get things done, whether your
timeline is two months, two days, or two hours.
You’ve got bags of confidence and experience when it comes to Social Media strategy, digital marketing, content production, and
community management – and you’re ready to whip us and our channels into shape.
If this sounds like you, here are some specific types of experience that will help you hit the ground running.
It would be great if you had experience in:
* Social media strategy – you’ve written and delivered plans to make change happen.
* Content production – you know your way around a camera (or mobile phone!) to produce, direct or commission compelling video
(bonus points for music performance, double points for orchestral) and photography.
* Channel management: Facebook, Twitter / X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok or YouTube - you know what content works best where and
how to tell a story in the most impactful way.
* Campaign planning: whether you’re working with Marketing, Communications or Fundraising colleagues, you’re an expert at
designing and adapting campaigns for Social Media channels and audiences to deliver results.
* Audience development: you’ve got experience growing online audiences – not just for the numbers, but for meaningful engagement.
You love learning about audiences and working with others to test new ways of spreading the word about our work, and how they
can be involved.
* Brand building: we love what we do, and we love our new name and brand – but we want more people to come and see why. You know
how to use Social Media as a powerful tool to get us where we want to be.
* Creative partnerships and networks: you love meeting other creatives and collaborating to make and commission original content
from diverse voices that can attract new audiences, and expand our network of freelancers and artists from the North East.
* Cross-channel marketing campaigns: you’ve got a strong understanding of marketing (including website, email, print) and how
Social Media can play a part in driving ticket sales, fundraising, and brand awareness.
* Stakeholder management: you’re at ease talking to people at any level to share what you know, understand their needs, and make
your recommendation. Even if it’s a tricky conversation.
Skills and knowledge of:
* Copywriting – you love having fun with words. Whether you’re writing about classical music, music education or even government
policy (only sometimes), you use your writing skills to bring expertise, emotion and personality.
* Reporting and evaluation – you also love having fun with numbers and data using Google Analytics, Social Media insights and
listening tools. And you can make those reports relevant and interesting to your non-digital colleagues.
* Paid Social Media advertising – running campaigns yourself or working with a media agency.
* Editorial planning and coordination – once you’ve got a story in mind, you know how and when to tell it. And plan it in with
what else is going on.
* Project management – you’ve got a system for managing multiple workstreams, requests and plans. And know how to prioritise… and
re-prioritise as needed.
* Tools and trends – you’ve got an eye on what’s out there, and what’s coming up, to help establish best practices for social
media production and management, and keep driving progress.
* Crisis comms management – should it happen, you know how to work with Comms colleagues and Directorate to manage tricky or
sensitive issues on Social Media.
It also helps if you have:
* A real passion for music – listening to it, making it, talking about it etc.
* Some graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite (but we can provide training if not).
You’ll be responsible for:
* Day to day management of The Glasshouse and Royal Northern Sinfonia Social Media channels (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram,
LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube); devising cross-channel content plans and schedules; audience engagement and community building.
* Writing a Social Media strategy to map out how we’ll use Social Media to connect with our audiences, support marketing
objectives, and grow our online presence and following; aligning our Social Media approach with our content strategy and
organisational strategy.
* Developing a social content plan for our home orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, working closely with the players and our
Classical team to produce an engaging online complement to the orchestra’s live and touring programme, with an eye on
developing new audiences.
* Making sure all our content is accessible for everyone to enjoy with captions, transcription, alt text etc.
* Working with others to design and deliver Social Media campaigns to support marketing and/or brand campaigns; offering
evaluation and recommendations to colleagues on how to get the best results.
* Driving engagement with our online audiences – and growing those audiences; working with Marketing and Box Office colleagues to
help support our audience development strategy.
* Supporting our brand awareness goals using our Social Media channels as a ‘first point of call’ for audiences engaging with The
Glasshouse and Royal Northern Sinfonia; adhering to our brand visual identity and tone of voice guidelines.
* Work with artists, creatives and networks to produce new types of social content, building connections with networks and
communities.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues from Marketing, Communications, Contemporary, Classical and Make Music programming
teams. You’ll also work with our Conferences and Events team, Food and Beverage team and Fundraising. Basically, you’ll cross
paths with most teams in the organisation, which is definitely one of the perks.
* Providing training and best practice guidance to colleagues in Social Media content and campaign planning.
But don’t worry If you’re not a perfect match for the job description and criteria, we’d love you to apply anyway. We are more
interested in your determination, positivity, and willingness to get stuck in.
Our commitment to your development
At The Glasshouse, we’re always learning. And we know that when it comes to training, everyone is different. So you’ll work
closely with your manager to identify what your training journey will look like. If you have a specific interest or you would like

This may be through gaining a qualification, on-the-job training or learning within your team, but whatever path you take, through
training and support, we’ll help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to thrive in your role.

experiences are valued so everyone can be themselves.

* Experienced being in care at any point in your life
* Have been a refugee or asylum seeker
* Are from the African, South, East and South–East Asian, Middle East, Latinx or North African diaspora, or have experienced
racism
* These are some common examples of challenging circumstances but there may be others. Everyone is welcome to apply.
* We do not discriminate because of race, colour, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation or expression, age,
disability or any other protected characteristic as outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
