About The Role:
The Society Partnerships Manager is a new position and will be an integral part of our growing Society and Partner Management team within the Springer Journals team. This role will help implement our strategies on developing and maintaining society partner relationships including acquisition and renewal efforts across the Springer Journals team. This position will support our society strategy by tracking and collaborating with Publishers on global acquisition opportunities and efforts, leading select opportunities in concert with the Journal Publishers, and guiding on strengthening current society relationships.
This role will not only identify new partnership opportunities but also work on strengthening existing partnership relationships and developing retention strategies, enabling Publishing to successful renewal negotiations. Key responsibilities include collaborating on the global society partnership process across the Journals team.
Role Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Publishing team, build a robust society and partner program that aligns with our strategy and supports high-value acquisitions and renewals of our current society partners.
- Create a pipeline of new business leads, prioritizing opportunities based on key regions, disciplines, and business models
- Develop strategies for retention of current society partners
- Identify opportunities and blockers for current and new business and liaise with business stakeholders on market requirements and capabilities
- Update our renewal process as needed, engaging internal colleagues to clarify responsibilities and support
- In collaboration with the Publishing subject expert, contribute to—and lead where necessary on—the development of proposals, P&L forecasts, presentations, and other materials in support of high-quality bids from RFP receipt to final partner decision
- Serve as central point for renewals and new business activity within assigned portfolios, working across the subject and business teams to track activity and decisions
- Collaborate with stakeholders, partners, and other team members to contribute to a culture that is mutually supportive and serves the needs of our communities
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive experience working with external partners, especially with academic societies
- Excellent communication skills and ability to clearly articulate concepts and ideas
- Ability to blend strategic and tactical thinking with commercial acumen
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Focuses on customer needs and satisfaction
- Builds effective and productive relationships with other members of staff
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, matrixed, and target-based organization
- Creative, flexible, and adaptable to new information
- International travel may be required
