The Role

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Space Regulatory Policy Team to help develop and maintain the new UK Spaceflight Regulator’s Policy function within the CAA Space Team.

 

The CAA took over responsibility for Space Regulation in July 2021. The UK space industry is a rapidly evolving sector which requires a responsive flexible approach to regulation. You will have the opportunity to work alongside leading experts to shape and influence the future as we look to build our team and expand further to keep pace with advances in the industry. 

 

  • To develop and maintain the ongoing policy and guidance requirements for the regulation of commercial licence holders
  • To provide general policy and regulatory advice and guidance across all the licence types
  • To be a subject matter expert and point of contact in at least one of the licence types or cross cutting themes
  • To understand the regulator objectives to support the monitoring of licence holders in the UK in accordance with our Values and Behaviours
  • To take part in stakeholder engagement events (one to one meetings and plenary events)
  • To actively learn about policy developments and latest thinking on the regulation of high hazard industry and how that might apply to the UK commercial space sector
  • To lead/contribute to programme workstreams and working groups to drive continuous improvement across the policies and process that apply to the whole Space Team and industry alike Standards, legislation and requirements are developed

 

About You

 

Minimum essential requirements for the role:

  • A forward-thinking approach to regulation and how to best work with the industry being regulated
  • Knowledge of regulating high hazard industries and experience of handling and sharing technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to represent the CAA in multi-agency and sometimes international forums demonstrating the CAAs values and behaviours
  • Can work in collaboration as part of a cross functional team with government and external agencies
  • Credible and successful engagement with industry stakeholders in a regulatory capacity
  • Excellent influencing skills
  • Evidence of stakeholder management including collaboration at all levels

 

Desirable skills for the role:

  • Technical knowledge of the Space industry in one or more areas of, range control, spaceport, launch, in-orbit, Air Navigation Order permissions, and/or ability to develop an in-depth knowledge
  • Knowledge/experience of Performance Based Regulation approach and how its applied
