Women and Girls Sports and Development Officer | Southall | 35 hours per week, this role requires evenings and weekend work | £23,000 to £27,500 | 5 year contract
Our client is a sports complex based at Spikes Bridge Park in Southall. They are an award-winning charity dedicated to helping disadvantaged groups within local communities to improve health and well-being.
The organisation offers a range of health and well-being activities including; football, cricket and exercise-based classes for children and adults. They aim to use sport and exercise to help disadvantaged groups from BAME communities and to tackle various wider community issues.
In this role, you will be primarily responsible for increasing the number of girls and young women taking part in Sports and exercise mainly Football/Cricket and indoor youth work-related activities.
To thrive in this role, you will be an inspirational mentor, with a football background focusing on girls' and young women’s participation and who is passionate about the importance of sport and exercise for all children and young people’s wellbeing.
The following criteria are essential for this role
- Relevant degree level qualifications in Sport, Exercise and/or Youth Work
- FA Level 1 football coaching qualification
- A further Level 1 or above on Cricket and other sport/youth work activity based qualification. Skills, ability & knowledge
- Minimum experience of two years within a sport or youth work setting with significant experience in delivering sports programmes
- Experience working in partnership with a range of voluntary and statutory sector partners
- A strong understanding of women’s sport and the barriers faced by girls and young women in accessing sport and in developing their sporting/exercise habits in particular South Asian and BME communities.
- Understanding of the health needs facing young people in London and demonstrable knowledge of how to address these needs
- Experience in developing and managing football or Cricket/sports development programmes leading to football and cricket club participation.
- Experience in managing football/sports delivery staff either full-time or part-time/volunteers
- Admin and IT skills using software including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- A proven track record of working as a team, understanding of funding opportunities and reporting all KPIs and staying on target
- A proven track record of creating new initiatives
- A good level of practical marketing knowledge and understanding of target group marketing initiatives
- Able to make presentations to management or community organisations
- Experience in managing partnerships
- Understanding the benefits of physical activity for girls and women
- Full driving licence and access to transport
Your role will include, but not be limited to
- To manage and coordinate a range of female orientated programmes that support more women and girls across football, cricket and physical activity in particular from South Asian and BAME communities
- Work with your colleagues to recruit volunteers and develop a pool of volunteers for all programmes
- Develop a presence in designated areas of Southall, such as; Ealing by delivering taster sessions in schools, attending community events and distributing marketing information as well as working with governing bodies such as County FA, Middlesex Cricket, London Sport, London Youth and others
- To develop and maintain positive relationships to create high quality Football, Cricket and physical activity opportunities for Women and Girls across Southall and Ealing and create events and festivals to increase participation
- Effectively recruit and manage a team of part-time casual coaches delivering across a number of community settings, including school-based programmes both in Primary and Secondary
- Schools and develop Football/sports Holiday activities
- Further develop links with primary and secondary schools, to offer a range of sport and football programmes in and out of curriculum time for female participants
- Manage effectively all administrative tasks of all Women and Girl programmes including surveys, feedback and producing timely impact reports
- Ensure that all requirements related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, Data
- Protection and Safeguarding are implemented and comply with policies and procedures, in order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all young people, staff and volunteers involved in the various programmes
- Undertake any other relevant duties related to furthering the development, promotion and sustainability of the organisation as set by the Senior Management team
- Work with Senior Management team and colleagues, when appropriate, on wide funding streams, commissioning, grants and tenders
