Job description
The SQL ETL Developer position is one of a small in-house team responsible for supporting and enhancing the firm's HR reporting framework and core HR applications. This position is being offered on a 12 month fixed term basis.
The role will support our upcoming merger with Shearman & Sterling and we are in need of an additional SQL ETL Developer to help update our existing Data Warehouse models to incorporate new data sources and modify existing structures to align with any changes required. You will also support a number of upcoming projects we have planned over the next 12 months.
You will be responsible for reviewing the current model, and to design, document and develop the updates necessary to meet our on-going requirements. This is a key process that underpins the global people reporting within the firm. As such we work heavily with a HR data set, which can offer up some challenges when dealing with the data, so experience in this area would be desirable though not essential.
Whilst experience of working with PeopleSoft data sets would be beneficial, full support will be provided.
Role and responsibilities
- SQL SSIS Development
- Review of the current solution and recommendations for development
- On-going development of the data warehouse and of all the ETL processes feeding into it.
- Configuration of existing SSIS packages to meet requirements
- Development of additional SSIS packages if required
- Adhere to ETL / Data Warehouse / Datamart development best practices
- Identify and resolve any performance and/or data related issues
- Understanding of the legalities and controls around data governance and GDPR, and ensuring the data warehouse adheres to these policies.

- Hands on ETL (Extract, Transform & Load) and SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) Package development using Microsoft SQL 2012+
- Hands-on experience with ETL development for business intelligence applications
- Expert Microsoft SQL querying skills (T-SQL)
- Advance knowledge of performance tuning related to ETL Development
- Strong Data Warehousing experience with an understanding of database structures, design, theories and principles
- Good exposure with the Kimball Methodology of Data Warehouse design – able to articulate and justify modelling decisions they would make.
- Experience working with complex and potentially un-clean data sets
Desirable Skills
- Microsoft certification in SQL (MCSA, MCSE)
- Experience with HR data set (ideally PeopleSoft)
- Power BI development
- Cognos BI experience (especially Framework Manager)
