We are looking for a Staff Quantum Computer Architect in either of our new facilities in Seattle, Washington or Toronto, Canada. As a Staff Quantum Computer Architect on System Architecture and Performance team, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. In this role you will be part of a team designing IonQ’s next generation quantum computers. The Architecture team is responsible for delivering innovative architectures that allow IonQ to maintain its leading position in the Quantum Computing space. Your daily work will include initiating and developing architectural design cycles to study various architectural concepts and making evidence based recommendations on the best architectural approaches for our next generation systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop architectural concepts for IonQ’s next generation quantum computers.
- Initiate design analysis cycles and trade studies in order to provide data for decisions
- Map between architectural concepts and product level requirements in order to develop engineering requirements.
- Develop models and run trade studies
- Disseminate results using reports, memos and presentations.
You’d be a good fit with:
- Degree in a relevant field e.g. Computer engineering, Quantum Computing.
- 5+ years experience in (classical or quantum) computer architecture and/or design.
- 5+ years experience in developing and using theoretical models to predict performance of a complex system.
- Familiarity with compiler development

- 5+ years experience in industry
- Experience with Quantum Computing or quantum information theory
- Experience with classical Computing Architecture
- Working familiar with concepts involving communication between devices (e.g. multi-core computation, von Neumann bottleneck etc. )
- Track record of innovative problem solving.
