This role is subject to -

  • Qualification and registration with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Post Political Restriction
  • Medical Clearance - Pre-placement health assessment (PPHA)
  • Good understanding of the Local Authority’s statutory responsibilities within Education
  • DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of our Schools QA team as the Statutory Lead for Safeguarding and Community Education. The Safeguarding and Community Education team is in the Schools QA team in Education. The team carry out crucial work to promote safeguarding, wellbeing and educational achievement of children.
The role holder will:
  • Work at a strategic level to influence schools and settings, as well as other agencies to develop, implement and evaluate Safeguarding and Community Education strategy
  • Lead the safeguarding team which provides safeguarding training, advice and guidance and ensures Safeguarding and safer recruitment policy and procedure are up-to-date
  • Lead the Community Education team which includes monitoring of Elective Home Education and out of school settings, including supplementary schools
  • Provide support and challenge which promotes effective safeguarding of children and young people in schools and the EHE and Community Education system. This will include working with a range of stakeholders and external agencies

The successful candidate will be proud and passionate about Manchester and the Education sector, have Qualified Teacher Status and experience of:
  • Working as a safeguarding lead in an education setting or local authority and have a strong understanding of multi-agency safeguarding arrangements
  • Experience of leading in Education, including leading continuing professional development in relation to education and safeguarding, to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people
  • Supporting the delivery of excellent safeguarding practice in schools and settings
  • Knowledge and understanding of Elective Home Education and Community Education
  • Leading in a culture of high support and challenge
  • Delivering a programme of work at pace
