The Strategy Director is responsible for delivering market leading strategies for our portfolio of global clients as well as contributing to new business pitches.
Job Description :
About the role
The role of Strategy Director is a senior one within the team and agency, reporting to a Strategy Partner. You will lead the strategic work on Homebase.
Homebase
Homebase is a leading Home Improvement and DIY brand in the UK and Republic of Ireland. We have been looking after their media planning and buying since mid-2019 and have been growing our scope since then.
They are a fast-paced client demanding great organisation and enthusiasm for their business, showcasing an inquisitive nature is imperative to helping them identify new opportunities for growth. Our activity spans both brand and tactical strategies. From a tactical perspective, we focus on driving revenue and incremental sales whilst simultaneously growing the brand, focussing primarily on driving brand consideration.
Since onboarding Homebase, we have helped to turn around the business, growing their return on advertising spend and evolving activity into digital channels. They put their customers at the heart of their strategy and are proactively future proofing their business by invested heavily in data and tech.
Your areas of responsibility and capabilities
The priority for this role is the strategic leadership of key clients.
  • You will identify the right opportunities to be more useful, relevant, or inspiring.
  • You will define distinctive behaviours that provide opportunities to outsmart.
  • You will create ideas and experiences in people’s journeys that unlock better growth.
You must be comfortable working with clients of all levels, from junior marketers right up to CMO, to get to grips with their real business problems (even without a well-articulated brief) and propose a route forward. This will often involve nurturing relationships beyond the marketing department with wider teams.
You will be adept at fielding and challenging briefs. You will be literate in the core factors in developing communication strategies: objective setting, budget setting, identifying growth audiences, understanding contextual considerations (consumer relationship with categories, cultural entry points, analysis of competitive and comparative brands, category entry points and brand audits. You must be capable of translating this work into compelling strategies for the long-term and supporting their adaptation for campaign delivery.
You will be responsible for translating these insights into distinctive media personalities for your clients and ensuring that this work shapes the work done by your colleagues in planning and activation.
You will aim to produce award-winning work on your key accounts.
You will also get involved in wider work to strengthen the work we do as a team, the success of the agency and its reputation. This will mean creating opportunities for organic growth through data, content and commerce, supporting new business pitches, developing our strategic product, contributing to thought leadership projects.
About you
To excel in this role, we are looking for individuals who are naturally inquisitive, constantly exploring new initiatives in the field of marketing, and unafraid to ask critical questions. We need a constructive disruptor who challenges the status quo and isn't satisfied with simply accepting what has been done in the past.
  • Retail experience is a must. You present yourself as knowledgeable, curious and passionate about retail brands, their place in culture and the ways in which media can be a powerful lever of growth.
  • Experience developing global or regional strategies is a must.
  • You have a malleable brain that can spot when to slow down – diagnosing a problem in detail before rushing straight to ‘an answer’ and when to speed up – forming an intuitive point of view quickly.
  • You have strong opinions (a constructive disruptor) but also welcome diversity of thought into your work, being prepared and open to change direction accordingly. The role will suit a collaborator not a lone thinker.
  • You have a can-do attitude and will push yourself and others to go beyond and make change happen.
  • You have good writing and story-telling skills, able develop a thread or thought in a body of work.
  • You have strong analytical skills and can think laterally in pursuit of fresh insights and creative solutions.
  • You will have presence – genuine, honest, and open but bringing gravitas, energy and personality to a room.
