I need some support with my personal care so prefer my team to be male. I also have my own car that my team drive for me, so you will need to have a full driving licence that lets you drive a car with a manual gearbox.
A BIT ABOUT ME
I’m a 65-year-old man who lives in the Knightswood area of Glasgow.
People who know me say I am really inquisitive, love finding out about new things, and have a wicked sense of humour. They also say I am laid back as I like to take life at a leisurely pace and am not keen on rushing or working to deadlines.
I really like to get out and about every day. I love going to see or do anything that relates to transport or my favourite music; and also enjoy being around animals or being immersed in history, visiting a museum. I am also a people watcher so I like to watch people draw, as well as just sit and watch the world go by. When we are driving about I usually pass the time listening to my music and playing guessing games with whoever is driving.
I am a great collector of things and love nothing more than a treasure hunt around some charity shops in search of new additions for one of my collections. I have a huge collection of vinyl records, books, toy cars, trains and also have a number of keepsakes that remind me of things. My friends say at this rate I might need a second home just to store my collections.
MY IDEAL PERSON
- You'll be positive with a calm and quiet presence
- You’ll appreciate that routines are my anchor
- You'll be a plain talker and good listener who is willing to be direct at times
- You'll have a pragmatic approach to what needs done and be relatively unflappable when things go awry
- You'll enjoy taking the day at a gentle pace
- You'll enjoy fun, silliness and having a laugh and will be able to use this to make the mundane more enjoyable.
- You'll share some of my passions
ABOUT THE JOB
I need support with day-to-day things like:
- Managing my personal care
- Keeping my house clean and tidy
- Preparing and cooking meals
- Keeping in touch with my sisters
- Doing my shopping
- Getting out and about
- Finding new and interesting things to do
- Managing my health appointments
- Managing my medication
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT OF THE JOB:
You will start your working day at 10:00am. You’ll receive a handover from on of your colleagues before they head home. I’ll already be up and about and will have had my breakfast before you arrive.
Our day together usually starts with you helping me with any housework (laundry and the like). We usually talk about what I want to do that day whilst we are doing this.
We then head off out in my car to do what we’ve planned (going places, doing things I enjoy...and if we need to, picking up some shopping.
We usually return home late afternoon and you tend to prepare dinner whilst I relax.
Once we have eaten and cleared up we might do something else together but I will often want to spend the time relaxing by myself watching the TV, listening to music or making lists of the things I like.
Later on, I like to have a bit of supper before winding down for the night. It is usually about then that I like to put on my PJs, so you give me a hand to do that and make sure I have everything I need before I retire for the night.
Once I have gone to my room for the night you will have some time to tidy up before going to bed yourself in my spare room.
After breakfast usually relax on the sofa until the new member of my team arrives at 10am.
WHEN YOU WOULD NEED TO BE AVAILABLE TO WORK:
I receive support 6 days a week and my team work from 10am one morning until 10am the next morning (sleeping over in my spare bedroom). I am looking for someone to work for me three days a fortnight.
My support is organised using a 4-week rolling rota that shares the weekend work proportionately between the members of my team.
