Sustainable Energy Communities Project Co-ordinator
Belfast (with hybrid working and travel around Northern Ireland)

About Us

Advice NI is a registered charity that provides a range of free advice services to the public including benefits, debt advice, EU settlement scheme and other HMRC services.

We also support 69 member organisations across Northern Ireland in the delivery of high-quality advice services by working with them to enhance their standards and service delivery.

We act as a voice for the independent advice sector and offer a range of award-winning training schemes and campaigns to improve the lives of people in Northern Ireland.

The Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) project is a pilot project that is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, and seeks to find ways to address fuel poverty and begin the transition away from fossil fuel use.

We are now seeking a Sustainable Energy Communities Project Co-ordinator to join us on a full-time basis, for a two-year fixed-term contract. This role is funded by the National Lottery.

The Benefits

- Salary of £31,364 - £33,945 per annum
- Travel reimbursed – 45p per mile
- Generous annual leave entitlement
- Bupa
- Spectrum Live Gym and The Health Hub
- Advice NI Social Committee events
- Advice NI Wellbeing Committee events
- Employer pension contribution
- Access to Advice NI training
- Annual training budget entitlement
- Hybrid working options

This is a terrific opportunity for a qualified community development professional with expertise in the energy sector to join our dedicated organisation.

You will discover a groundbreaking project - the first of its kind in Northern Ireland - in which you will be helping address fuel poverty and decrease our consumption of fossil fuels.

So, if you’re ready to apply your expertise to the future of Northern Ireland and make a difference to countless communities, read on and apply today!

The Role

As a Sustainable Energy Communities Project Co-ordinator, you will play a key role in the SEC project, supporting the four pilot communities in their transition away from fossil fuel use.

Specifically, you will assist with the development of pilot communities’ Energy Master Plans (EMPs). You will develop Community Charters, communicate the project implementation plan, and develop a publicity and communications plan, as well as building strong relationships with the communities through a variety of meetings.

You will also ensure the pilot communities have access to appropriate support and services such as training, awareness-raising, energy-auditing, debt and welfare advice, and the analysis of renewable energy options.

Additionally, you will:

- Maintain an understanding of the challenges and solutions in the energy sector
- Assist in writing up the EMPs
- Record and report project progress and risks

About You

To be considered as a Sustainable Energy Communities Project Co-ordinator, you will need:

- Experience of working on community development and/or community energy projects, or energy, energy efficiency, or retrofitting projects

Knowledge of fuel poverty and/or climate change and the just transition towards net zero would be beneficial to your application. A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field would also be advantageous, as would a professional qualification in energy auditing and/or community development.

Other organisations may call this role Net Zero Project Assistant, Sustainability Project Officer, Project Officer, Energy Projects Co-ordinator, or Energy Programme Co-ordinator.
