Why work for us? We accommodate almost 2,500 children to learn to swim each week at both our centres. Our programme is one of the biggest and most successful in the region. Teaching and developing swimming as an essential life skill is core to our programme. Through award winning initiatives such as Outswimming Cancer and our volunteer programme we create opportunities for our communities and staff that have enabled us to develop a strong programme; so, come and join us!
The service needs to recruit annualised positions to support vacancies within our team along with staff absence. Candidates should be qualified to Swim England level 2, although level 1 is acceptable with a commitment to train to level 2 within an agreed timescale.
Vacancies available include: x1 variable hour post, x1 post at 312 annualised hours (equating to 6 hours per week), and x3 part time posts - hours available are: Tuesday 3:45 - 5:15 (1.5hrs), Wednesday 3:45 - 5:45 (2 hrs), Thursday 9:30 - 11:30 (2 hrs), Thursday 3:45 - 6:45 (3 hrs), Friday 9:45 - 11:15 (1.5hrs), Saturday 8:00 - 12:00 (4hrs), Saturdays 10:00 - 12:30 (2.5 hrs), Sundays 8:30- 12:00 (3.5 hrs), Sundays 8:30- 12:00 (3.5 hrs).
We expect our swimming teachers to show a degree of flexibility to meet customer demand within the opening hours of the service where new opportunities are identified. The posts requires regular unsocial hours working including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays involving services provided at all Councils Sports and Leisure venues within the Borough.
We expect an innovative and high-quality teaching service to be delivered to meet a wide range of customers and specific needs from learn to swim to stroke technique, and initiatives such as flip and fun schemes. One to one lessons are also provided at both sports centres. All team members will be expected to provide support to the service covering colleague absences for training and holidays, etc. Regular training will be provided and attendance at planned swimming teacher meetings throughout the year.
You must hold a current National Pool Lifeguard award, or National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches. We will support you to continue on-going CPD linked to the Swim England National Teaching Plan and framework.
We pride ourselves in paying a very competitive salary through applying a market supplement, giving further support to our staff and consistency across the programme.
The successful candidates will be subject to a Disclosure carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
